Hard to take your eyes off the red Ferrari in center foreground, driven by main character played by Walter Matthau. Somewhere on Long Island, NY. Looks like a red Type 3 to the left of the Ghia, and there's another Ghia/Type 3 dark green merging into the fast lane a few cars behind as this clip ends.
Here's the amusing start of the movie, which contains the traffic shot-

OK...this has gotta be the most obscure Ghia sighting in this entire thread! Good eye there, Rome!
Sounds like they used a big-block American V8 for the dubbed-in engine note for Matthau's Ferrari 275GTB. That car would be worth about $2.5M now _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

The latest episode of Chasing Classic Cars features Wayne Carini looking at a late 60s Ghia Vert for the Consours d'Lemons show in CA.
One of the event judges ended up taking the Ghia to the show.
Here is a photo of the Ghia from the event.

From the "small screen"- @ 1:30, a black low-light coupe. Comments mention the road is Ocean Blvd in Long Beach, CA:

The light blue sedan 2 cars behind the Ghia, to the left of the '59 Caddy, appears to be a German Hansa, from the Borgward group! |

The fake sounds were the first thing I noticed. I was waiting for them to start it up, and when they did, I was like "Wait, what?!" I learned how to drive a stick in a Ferrari. |

Saw that episode. Car was in terrible shape. No idea how a car in CA was that bad off. Did you notice all the other VWs the guy had on the lot? _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Yes I did. It was surprising to see a car in this bad of condition on a car lot. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

I suppose it's too soon to get all excited about the notion that Karmann Ghias may have finally become SO desirable/valuable that car dealers will be more than happy to have one in any condition at all on their lot, huh?

Dodi's Auto Sales in Monterey, CA seems to specialize in clapped-out junkers. To be fair, he has some pretty nice stuff on his lot too, but many of his cars would more likely be found up on blocks in some hillbilly's front yard than on a car lot. The owner, Dodi, is quite a character...here's another of his prized offerings:

Usually I look at imcdb.org before watching a movie, so as to notice any interesting vehicles. However, this 1970 or '71 Karmann Ghia coupe about 14 minutes into The Friends Of Eddie Coyle (1973) took me by surprise. The movie was shot entirely on location in Boston, has a large number of street and parking lot scenes and just about every one of these scenes has an air cooled Volkswagen in it.

In Led Zeppelin's 1976 film 'The Song Remains the Same', a yellow Ghia is seen up ahead as the band's limo comes up on traffic.

Watched an old goodie--the Quillar Memorandum--spy story of the early 60s in Berlin. Saw a Ghia coupe and lots of scenes driving a 356 cabriolet. Both favorites of mine. Great story too. _________________ Pat Daily

Saw a movie last night from 1987 call Three O'clock High. The main character in the film is a high school student who has a Karmann Ghia that will not start...so he takes his mom's car to school (the station wagon).
There is a quick shot of the Ghia near the beginning of the film. Its a red coupe that appears to me to be a 70 or 71 based on the way the rear bumper looks.

Latest Kärcher "Ghostbusters" advert feature an early Coupe, being pressure washed. Sorry, can't add a link but try search in Youtube for it. _________________ The glory never gets old, just need new paint.
