Those were my favorite out of your pics actually. I rarely ever see them on even the nicest of restorations. _________________ Patrick

Scored a nice set - nos & used seat recliners. Early ones too - not black or part chromed L&R

So way back in 05 I purchased a lump of NOS Type 3 goodness from vwovalguy up in Vancouver BC. I was lucky to get several hard to find accessories all at once - a tach, gravel guards, TS emblems, full circle horn ring and a Overrider set to name a few.
Back then I had early T3 stuff post 64. I dressed the old 63 with some of this stuff - but the one piece I really loved but never used was that overrider set. i always felt it out of place on an early car with the lack of embellishment seen on a 64-65 T3. So I sold them, understanding I may never see a complete set again.
Today I got a package from Germany. Mr Steinhauser came through on a request I had back when I purchased a notchback from him mid-last-year. As some of you know its a 64 with all the embellishment. Buying the notch only intensified my desire to have these on a car, so the hunt was on. Mario informed me they were available - and I shit you not I didn't hesitate
Some of you may not know what these are. They are basically reinforced tubes and overriders made for the T3. You typically see these as standard on Beteles, buses and ghias - sans maybe the rubber bumperettes. Due to the VW's lower bumper compared to US and other world car makes, these towel bar, overriders were put in place to help protect the VW from others. They were never fitted to a T3 as standard, making them a desired official VW part accessory. These are so well sought after that ISP & FLAT 4 had a run on Re-pops. Those have since dried up making them sought after as well.
This is a rare kit as its complete down to the nutz and boltz. Down to the VW paper covering the towel bars. I would of never thought these were still out there complete. Parts of this kit are all over. So many an enthusiast play find the bean in hopes of creating a set. Very hard to do.
This set as well as the NOS recliners I have will go on the 64 notch. Even rarer than finding a set of these is finding a true set installed on a notch, square or fasty with all the reinforcement holes cut and brackets installed.
I took them out of the box to find some crazy mold on the rubber. Growing out of the dust impregnated with paper fiber in the wax-cosmoline coating. A quick shot of WD-40 saved the day, followed bu a polish with some fine steel wool. Beautimus!

Very nice, I bought a NOS set still in the paper (minus the VW boxes) last year at the Classic. I have an idea what you paid. But it is hard to turn down buying them knowing that you might not ever see a NOS set ever again. |

I have the repop set from ISP on my '65 Notch. I like the look, but keep in mind that giving the car a quick wash now takes longer. And waxing the front can now can only be done by hand ( no buffer can fit).
But I'm sure you will enjoy the distinctive addition. _________________ Rick Christensen

Due, you come in busting down the doors with an epic quote, then you post a picture of some random junk. Time to step your game up, Sir Hoards-a-lot. Break out the real goods _________________ '68 Lotus White T34 automatic sunroof
