|

Recently purchased my first Thing, a 1973.
I will post photos of it a little later, but for right now I want to change the odometer etc. bulbs for LED's and I'm unsure at this point as to how to get to them?
Can someone please tell me how, or photos would be even better.
thanks,

Thanks for the replies.
But I don't think I asked the right question?
Should have asked how do the dash panels come apart and out.
And what does the back of the odometer look like where the bulbs go?
I don't want to start taking things apart without more information and photos if possible.
Thanks,

Just take out the single screw at the top of the panel to the left and the right of the steering wheel. Leave the center panel with the speedometer. The panels are hinged at the bottom and will swing down, just be mindfull of the wires and don't pull anything loose. you can then look in with a flashlight and see the bulb holders plugged into the speedometer. I don't have any pictures but it's really quite obvious when you see it. Enjoy your new Thing |

Here's a drawing of the back of a Type 1 speedometer.
Keep in mind that Things don't use all of the indicator bulbs illustrated.
Good luck, Mondshine |

The hotter you can stand it in your garage- the better. The wires are more compliant when warm- thus far less likely to fight you and unplug themselves. _________________
