There is a lot to read on line about the Iltis; just Google it.
Some were manufactured by VW, while some were manufactured under license in Canada (for the Canadian military) by Bombardier. Some are even turbo-diesels.
The Iltis (Ferret or Polecat) is a very capable vehicle; much more so than our Things.
Every Iltis owner I have ever spoken with complains that they are also much more expensive to maintain than our Things.
Any Iltis will be welcome at Kubel Treffen East.
Good luck, Mondshine |

I've had some fun with mine! It was steeper and muddier than it looks… The jeep we were with got hung up, but I didn't

FWIW, VW did make small batches of Iltises (Ilti?) 1986-88 after their agreement with Bombardier. If it's a diesel, it's a VW or a conversion.
And, yes, an Iltis is far more functional than any Jeep.
If one wants a Bombardier, there are hundreds in Afghanistan that were deemed to expensive to be worth transporting back to Canada.
I drove an Iltis once -- a VW one. The seller semi-mocked me for being so cautious driving through the fields and brush. I had never truly driven off-road before. Something about the carb spooked me from buying it. Looking back, it was just another mistake I had made. My face hurt from smiling so much. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI

I like the way VW used the windshield frame, latches and sun visors from a 181-Thing. |

Yeap.
The VW ILtis (VW 183) is a great car. The ones we have here have Golf engine and are all petrol. Four wheel drive and lots of fun... _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538182 |
