Like it says, when you are racing, or just stretching you legs for a few gears, what is your shift redline.
I have a street Ghia with a turbo, and shifting at 6,000 seems to be all this engine wants or needs. _________________ 1973 Karmann Ghia

Really depends on the engine combo, Howard. I had a 1750 in a car that went with power to 65-6700rpm. _________________ On a lifelong mission to prove (much to my wife's dismay) that Immaturity is Forever!! |

There is no one RPM fits all answer for this question. You have a turbo engine and I have a NA engine. The RPM's are not in the same class. Mine is a 1679 with a 119* webcam and stock heads sporting dual single throat carbs. If I ring it's neck I get 5400rpm. But normally can take it to 5K without much worry. Now I once had it rev above 5800K during a burn out on wet pavement. But the rev limiting rotor protected from any damage. I think I need to learn a little better throttle control during lose of traction events
Enjoy the ride. _________________ I have learned over the years.

a turbo might make it higher or it might make it lower rpm than if it was NA, depends on the sizing of the turbo, charge temp, and manifold dimensions. |

I think the cam has as much to do with it as anything. But it's really the whole combo. I had a drag Ghia for a while that had a shift point of 8,000. The first few times I heard it twist that high, it gave me the creeps!!!
But it stayed together. I ran 1/8 mile drags, with a best of a 7.57. I never went past 3rd gear before I was in the traps. I never won a penny, got a few trophies, but man was it fun!!!
My butt-dyno tells me my turbo Ghia now, would be a close run, and I couldn't pick a winner. _________________ 1973 Karmann Ghia

when my ears tell me to.....I found some stainless jam nuts for my rockers that added a few more rpm ,Ive not hit the float rpm .since titanium wood be nice for a little more cushion. tit metrick nuts are eazy to find & cheep but...the 5/16 seems to be made with bird teeth. I reckon the usaf dosent use many that size. there are somany factors that can alter the rpm. many people try to make it go too high when the heads, cam, exhaust, intakes, rockers or carbs dont work there . thats when shit happens. dont try to make 200 hp out of a 2332 with 70 hp heads. |
