What visable difference is there between a 1600 and 1776? Is the spacing between the cylinder studs and the cylinder fins a clue? |

You have to remove the head and measure the cylinder. _________________ Glenn

Or you can remove the head and measure the piston diameter. Sometimes you can read the stamped mm diameter on the piston crown. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. I don't know if anyone has done this, but it would seem that you could get some idea if you could semi-accurately measure how close the top of the cylinder is the the head studs at the head. You would be trying to determine if the head was opened up for a larger cylinder. _________________

EVfun thanks for saying what I was thinking. Logic (not always accurate) tells me a measurement taken relating the stud to fins makes sense. Hoping someone could measure a 1776 so I could compare. |
