73 1600 DP Ghia hard to start for a while. Acted like flooding that went away. Then it went to once starting, it flooded out. The accelerator pump fine. Float fine. Looked down carb with a flashlight after trying to start and witnessed the big aluminum main fuel feed just pours gas down the throat.
What do I do now? |

check the float valve to make sure it is shutting off the fuel. And check to see if it is a genuine Solex or a crappy aftermarket. _________________ Rick

The fuel level in the float bowl is too high. It should be about 18mm (.70") from the top edge of the bowl with the float in place. This problem is usually caused by a faulty needle valve or a leaking float. Another cause could be fuel pressure that's too high, but this is less likely when using a stock fuel pump.

shouldnt the squirter be brass? |
Yes, the accelerator pump nozzle is brass, but the main fuel discharge arm is cast into the lower carburetor body and is of the same material. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

Float chamber breather pipe at 12 O'Clock.
Accelerator nozzle at about 4 to 5 O'Clock. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
