Hello, i found an oval body shell with chassis number 1-0986280. As i looked this is september 1955. But on the body at the brake fluid bottle area, 49909 is stamped. What is this number? Thanks in advance. |

is there another digit missing there?
that is the body number, but the number you have given is a early 1949 body number. i take it you do not have a split window body?

I'd agree. A 1956 model year Oval Window.
As Luke said . . . the other number is the body number . . . nothing to do with the VIN.
Your front heater outlets are louvered and up close to the bulkhead, correct? _________________ Jesucristo es mi Seņor y Salvador! |

Can you give more pictures of the car? I know that the heater vents were moved up in late 1955, but your body number implies an early shell. Back in the old days, people used to remove the split window and replace it with an oval. Do you have an Oval dash? You may also have an early nose. My car is from 1955, but my nose was replaced and is dated 1954. _________________ Have nice 914, want nice Bug |

Think the bodynumber match quite well. The new bodies for the 56 year model started from zero again in august 55. The 56 starts at chassi # 1-0929746.
1-0986280 is an october car, not september _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...
