| Just finished wiring up my notch but the starter motor is getting really hot cranking the engine, has anyone got any ideas? The gearbox earth strap looks OK |

Starter binding in support bushing
Engine very tight/ hard to turn over
Timing way too advanced causing slow turning and "hydrolocking"
Engine compression ratio way too high
Defective starter motor
Is the battery cable to the starter getting hot too?

| Engine is a new turn key, I didn't notice the battery cable getting hot, it's a new starter and bush, I've tried 2 starters both got hot. could it be down to a bad earth? I've only had the engine running briefly |

| I would say the starter bushing in the trans is bad or not there if you don't want to pull the motor again use a starter from a automatic type3 |

You did grease the bushing, right? If the bushing hole was really worbbled, it is possible to install the new bushing out of square. Pull the sparkplugs out of the engine, then have someone try and turn it over. Mean time put your hand alternately on the power cable & the starter. If they both get hot, you have one hell of a current draw, and binding in the starter.
The ground is not the problem. If the starter is turning over, you have a decent ground. Remember, in an electrical system, what ever current leaves the power source, must return to it. (Kirchhoff's law). In fact in a battery system, the electrons (current) actually leaves the battery on the negative side, and return on the positive side.
