bone stock 65 bus, still 6 volt.
when the bus is running and I rev engine the generator light starts to come on.
also, when I turn on headlights while driving the generator light starts to come on. I just polarized the generator with same results.
does this sound like a generator or voltage regulator issue? |

The 6 volt systems can have anomalies. Usually it's poor grounding somewhere. Check the voltages figure out if your generator is charging. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

The generator light is connected between 6 volts from the ignition and the voltage regulator which look at the voltage generated from the generator D+.
For it to come on you need a generator failure or a low voltage on your 6 volt instrument circuit or ground problems somewhere. Make sure the ground connection to the battery is good. Ground connection to the transaxle? On the 6 volt side it could just be the connections with the dash wiring fuse box etc.. Headlights often make it glow because they use enough of the main 6 volts to to drop it below the voltage coming from the generator light wire. So bad connections anywhere on the Main 6 volt wire from the battery to the front of the bus where it ties into the fuse box or in the fuse box terminals can cause the glow. The good thing is your generator may be working fine.
Looking at this "The Samba" Schematic it is evident that places to check for bad connections should include the top of the fuse box above the last two fuses and the Ignition Switch.
