Just bought a 1978 Super Beetle convertible & need to put new tires on it. Can anyone tell me what a balloon tire is? The standard tires on it now are 165 80 15. What makes a tire a "balloon tire" They may be called something different now.

Baloon tires are generally low pressure, fat (wide base) tires. i'm pretty sure this is not what you are looking for, but just for an example GOOGLE 12.5-15 implement tire or multi rib flotation tire (front tractor) to give you an idea of a "baloon tire"
