Just having a hard time understanding what the difference between a strut and shock are and also how to tell which one I should be replacing. When I go over a speed bump my car bounces around way to much after I'm over them, also when I back up off my driveway I always hear a clunk and scrap sound coming from the back end of the car when I drop off the driveway onto the street. The cars pretty old and I bet I should be replacing them anyways, just dont know which ones to do first. Also I want to put a hitch on the back and tow a tiny trailer with my dirtbike on it in the near future.

Cheers!

Well they have struts in front and regular shocks in the rear. The strusts went out completely on my 80 Rabbit pick up truck and it was like riding in a dumpster crashing over every bump.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacPherson_strut
The Rabbit has coil over struts in the front & coil over shocks in the rear.

I remember leaf springs on my 80 pick up.

That would be correct, the pick ups had rear leaf spring suspension, the rest of the rabbits had coil over shocks.

I would do the front first. KYB make some nice replacements and I've used them on my pickup. The little trailer is certainly doable with the proper hitch. I just shove mine in the back Wink
