Anyone know what this thing is. I have seen four of these in my travels to Guatemala and El Salvador. I have only seen one on the street running. I have looked all over the net and can find this. there are some similar but not like this. Thoughts?

Probably a VW Gurgel...

Gurgel was my first thought but couldnt find one that looked like this one. Maybe because there are so many parts missing, I couldn't identify. thanks |

looks like a variant of this model.
I admit to having never heard of a Gurgel. quite a lot of goofy looking versions, but several I'd absolutely love to have. There are quite a few that would be great alternatives to the traditional manx clone/style buggys.
Several that look like a cross between a Kubel/country buggy/hummer that would look great with a mid travel suspension. I'd totally rock one of these. were these still on a VW chassis or a box frame chassis like I see some are?

John:
I believe that the Gurgel was built on a dedicated chassis, using VW T1 parts.

Hi,
the Gurgel's are all (but not the the first kit's Form the 60's) factory build with a tube frame laminated in the body, called "Plasteel".
Only the Dacunha Jeg's are based on shortened brasil T1/2 Chassis. |
