Hello all... Just bought this buggy and found out it has some serious issues.... In my mind its a scrap, but maybe theyres a trick fix for this issue. Iv been out of the bug world for 20 years.... My last was a 56 Oval Rag... And I wish I never sold it. But anyways... Please look at pictures and hopefully someone has some good advice for fixing. I have no problem fabricating, welding, etc. Work doesnt scare me, just want it to be safe.
Thanks!!
Craig

Looks like someone did a hack job to clear early swing axle frame horns for CV joints. Clean off the paint and crap and see if there are any cracks anywhere else.
If not just cut out area for the CV clearance and weld in 1/8in flat strap or plate to fix it. _________________ Joseph

As Joe described, much simpler than replacing horns and probably straighter

Acme/Berrien makes them. They're about $100.

Thanks guys!!... I just stripped them down... Got the welder out, fixed cracks, made the curve notch for the CV clearance, and reinforced the bottom with some 1/8 inch pipe cut in half. |
