So I am finally refurbishing my sunroof on my '65. I pulled the old felt seals off from 2011 and now I am not certain I had it in right. Does the bead 'overhang' along the top of the seal go towards the body, or aim inwards towards the sunroof panel? In other words, the completely flat side of the felt seal glues towards the body, or away? May be obvious to some.

I had the bead towards the body and TOO low (flat side away from body) . . . want to get it right now. If I blow up the wolfsburgwest image, they show the bead towards the sunroof panel (very generic drawing though). If that is correct then I had it wrong all this time.

I presume the rear felt has the bead aim upwards . . . but now not sure either.

Also, how high above the body should it stick up?

Many thanks for replies - really need to button this up. New everything, should be nice Smile

Hope this article will help you. Plenty of photos:

However if you're wondering which way it gets glued down. The flat side is attached to the roof panel. The rounded side is facing the movable portion. It is designed to have a slight compression. The height is just barely above the roof panel itself .

Thanks for the reply! I JUST found a pic showing that. I had it backwards all this time!

What about the rear portion? Looks like in pics the bead goes UP - that is how I had it installed before.

THANKS!!!!!!

Yes the rear portion does go up and as it wraps around you'll see that it will set the height for the front portion which will again be just slightly above the roofline itself.
