Hello fellow Bug owners... Sorry that I'm not using the search function, but in a hurry... I need to know what is the torque spec for the (17mm hex socket) drain & fill plugs for the manual transaxle/transmission for a '74 Super Beetle 1600cc?

I also need to know what is the torque spec for the Oil Pressure-Relief Spring Plug? These are in the 1600cc dual-port engine...

Thanks kindly, in advance, for your help...

The trans fill and drain plugs are tapered fit. Just tighten them till you have good tension on the hex wrench.
The oil pressure relief plug does not have a torque spec in the manual that I have. So again tighten till there is a good resistance and then monitor it for a few miles. If a leak develops tighten just a little more.
Just be careful not to strip the threads.
Welcome to the samba.

Manuals typically state 14 ft lb for the gearbox filler plug and drain plug.

The relief plug is meant to be simply hand tightened with a large screwdriver until you slightly crush the gasket.

You need to own the Bentley repair manual. Torque specs are all in there.

Trans fill and drain plugs are 14 ftlbs.

Thanks for the replies! Yah, found my Bentley manual, 14 lb-ft confirmed. No value given for the oil pressure-relief plug, confirmed. Mine has aluminum-looking washers as the 'gasket' for the plug - where in heavens name do you get those? Does anybody know the part number or a link to a good parts fiche that would show it?

I appreciate your help!

Mark

The aluminum crush washers come in the engine gasket kit. The kits are cheap enough, there's no need to try to hunt down the part number of the individual gasket.
Get a couple of kits. All VW owners should have these kits in stock.

Because the relief valve seals only come as a single per gasket sets designed for single relief cases🙄
