Just finished a 4 year body off full restoration of a '71 SB convertible. It really turned out well and I'm thinking of finishing it off with new wheels and tires. I really like the polished Empi GT8 wheels but I can decide if they will rub my struts. Can any of you recommend a knowledgeable dealer that I can trust and talk to about wheels and tire combinations for this car? A source on the East coast would save me some shipping costs if one is available.

Thanks.

Hi. You're gonna need to find out the wheels specs. The backspacing is your important measurement. I've had both standard and super's. The '73 yellow super beetles, Sports Bugs, came with a 5 1/2" wide wheel and the added inch was on the outside(positive). I have 914 steel wheels that are also 5 1/2" wide, but the added inch is on the inboard side(negative) and it wont bolt up to the drum as it hits the lower spring perch, on the super beetles. The 914 wheel works nicely on standard bug's, ghia's, and type 3's, for what that's worth.
The tire you choose may also factor in.
Hope this helps, Bill.
