Sorry photo uploader is not working for me right now. I'm about ready to send off my 1978 Bus engine to Brothers in CA. They wanted me to give them the estimated weight when ready to ship. I looked on line and did not really find a weight plus mine has been stripped down a bit. Can anyone give me a estimate. No flywheel, clutch, removed the fan assembly, no oil, no heat exchangers or exhaust manifolds.
Thanks,
Charlie

From Ratwell:

http://www.ratwell.com/technical/Weights.html

Long block:

A Type 4 long block weighs approx. 142 lbs.

Case - 55 lbs.
Crank - TBD
Camshaft - 3 lb. 12 oz.
Cylinder head - 17.5 lbs.
Piston + pin - 1 lb. 9 oz.
Cylinder - 6 lbs. 5 oz.
Rods - TBD
8 Lifters - 2 lb. 3 oz.
8 Push rod tubes - 1 lb. 6 oz.
Engine:

Fully dressed Type 4 weighs 309 lbs.

How does a long block compare to a Type 4 fully dressed? The long block weights about 167 lbs less. This makes quite a difference when you are moving the engine around from one place to another, trying to lift it onto an engine stand or calculate shipping costs.

Flywheel - 14.5 lbs.
Fan shroud + alternator - 24 lbs.
Muffler - 23 lbs.
Heat exchangers - 17-19 lbs.
Clutch - 2 lb. 3 oz.
Pressure Plate - 9 lbs.
Dual Solexes + manifolds - 15.5 lbs.
Engine tin - 20 lbs.
Distributor - 1 lb. 10 oz.
Engine support bar - 22 lbs.
Oil cooler - 2 lb. 2 oz.

I'm suprised Brothers isn't telling you that stuff, they get engines shipped all the time (assumedly) so they'll know what the average one weighs without even looking it up.

Thanks Guys,
I was going to guess about 150. My crate is 55. I'll give them 210 pounds, that should be pretty close.
Any advice for me with the rebuild. My wife and I actually visited with Brothers last year when we were on vacation and really liked them. They talked about going with bigger valves but other then that I don't know what to expect. We plan to run the two carb set up. Not going for speed as much as we are going to power to get up hills.
