I am getting my upholstery guy to hand make door panels and seat covers. I hope to make all measurements as close to original as possible. Could anyone with original door panels and seat covers help to provide these measurements?

All measurements from 1957 old panels.... close, but might not be perfect sizes:
1... 5 5/8"
2... 5 5/16" at the edge, measured from the bead at edge.
3... 11 3/16" ( to me more important is right edge at the bead into the first mounting hole for arm rest is 13 1/4")
4... 13 3/16"
5... 3 3/8"
6... 20 "
7... 11"
8...7"
... hope that helps... a friend gave me a nice set of new panels, for my '57 and I have the shitty originals... I can give you those (shitty originals) for free... at postage only and that might be much more helpful, if you are trying to make a set... email me to discuss further... _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

Zenvw, thank you very much for the measurements. PM sent for email address. Would be easier to communicate in email. 13 and 14 were not mentioned. I presume you do not have a og rear panel. |

Is there a mistake on 1? 5 5/8" looks like a measurement of trim to edge. It supposed to be armrest to edge. |

Re measured and number 1 = 8 1/2
.........................number 3 = 11 inches from the beaded edge to the arm rest (not the chrome trim). _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

Thanks again Zenvw. Anyone has an original seat covers and rear panels? I need no. 9 to 14 to complete the task.
1... 8 1/2"
2... 5 5/16" at the edge, measured from the bead at edge.
3... 11" (beaded right edge to the first mounting hole for arm rest is 13 1/4")
4... 13 3/16"
5... 3 3/8"
6... 20 "
7... 11"
8... 7"
9 - ?
10 - ?
11 - ?
12 - ?
13 - ?
14 - ? |

9.... my '57 seats do not have these darted impressions, as pictured
10... 2 3/4"
11... 9 3/4"
12... 2 3/4"
13... 2 1/2"
14... 2"
13 and 14 measurements taken from my '55... I believe it has a slightly different shaped ash tray. I excluded this ash tray from my '57 (none in the rear qtr. panel) is why I could not get the original sizes
...
... hope this helps.

Did you ever find the measurement on #9? I'm doing something similar for my seat covers. Thank you. |

... I sold the later 1957 oval... no longer have any measurements.
I'd go to a local VW show and get my own measurements from a show car or just get something from TMI... _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

Patch of vinyl behind the radio block off, nice added detail, often over looked.
Your headliner looks amazing too, nice and tight. |

What's the reason for the block-off area patch?
Is it simply to stop any cold air flow into the cabin? |
i think so especially during winter. My 64 has similar material patch at the glove box door hinges.

Also reduces fuel vapour ingress into the cabin as the ovals didn't vent down a tube as seen in later models. _________________ Aust. RHD 66 Type 1
