Float don't float...

One of the Kadron's (SOLEX Brosol H 40/44 EIS) on my 2 liter type one, sunk a plastic float. as would be expected I was 30 miles from home, in the dark....

Any way, this morning I tapped all the FLAPS here locally, no joy. None of the counter jockeys I talked to even understood that carb parts could be ordered. (to be fair, none of them were even BORN when the last carb'ed engine rolled off the line)

I was considering doing a kit along with new floats and float valves as the carbs were bought used and I've fed them a steady diet of alcohol tainted fuel.

Anybody have a magic parts supply source?

Will sweat for parts...

I ended up buying the PAIR kit, with floats, from Bradsparts (Evilbay) $55.25 free ship.

He also had some GM parts I've been chasing, so, good deal all round.

Since I'm gonna have them both scattered, shortly, anybody want to guess at the starting jet sizing for my 2007 CC type I? They were supposedly set up for a mild 1600, when I bought them off da bay. Always seemed rich to me, but in the street legal sand rail they got 18 to 20 MPG and pulled hard.

Just to close out this thread.

I had a very enlightening conversation with Jeff at Kadieshack. I learned that 28 mm venturies were way too small, all the tricks I used on the accelerator pumps were just covering up for small venturies and small jet's. I can't take credit for all of the screw ups. What I was told I bought, and what I actually bought were, as they say, a bit divergent.(used carbs, messed with by a not so sharp as he thought he was, tuner (me), always an adventure.

Jeff listened carefully to what I knew about the engine, recommended a change to 32mm venturies , his pick for main and idle jets, and following his build/adjust video instructions to the letter.

In 3 day's, Jeff's parts showed up, Several minor, easily fixable screw ups(mine) later, the belt buckle dyno tells me I picked up around 20-25 HP, across the board. The front wheels come up real quick now and ill timed stabs of throttle will lead to scary quick lane changes. (likely a function of the 31 inch tall, hard compound, mud tires on the back.) No flat spots, no surging, just smooth, predictable power. a little lope, with the idle set at 700 RPM, smooth transition to WOT. in short, perfect manners.

The overhaul parts kit I purchased,(NOT from Jeff) while adequate, contained NO Solex parts. The floats and top gaskets both required modification/trimming to work.

Next time, I'll just call Jeff, spend a little more and get the good stuff.

Didn't mean to write a book, just had to say all that, to say this: Jeff's reputation, as a true master, is very well deserved.

Jeff's a good guy to offroad with too. He founded the SoCal Bajas group along with a few fellow Samba members. I joined shortly after the start.
