Today I was try to look someone up on the members list and I noticed that my own member number had dropped 8 places. Are old unused accounts being deleted? There are a lot of people who have only sign up and then disappeared.

I have been doing some cleanup/removal of very old accounts of people who created the account but never visited once. It was probably in the thousands. That may have affected your numerical ranking.
This will be ongoing, it usually amounts to 50-100 accounts per week.

i just took a quick glance at the memberlist, never occurred to me before. There are definitely thousands off unsused accounts
