Long story short I have a 78 vanagon bus for parts she have a 2.0 engine i want to swap engines with my 72 bay window that have a 1600cc.
the pancake engine is FI. I like to know what wires i need to take off the donor.
Should i take the entire harness?

Not a Vanagon, those started in 1980 and are a completely different body style.

You need the harness, the relays and the brain as well as the airbox because the MAF is located in it.

That grinder option (GO) is not OG. Wrong color for that year.

that looks like a complete 1978 engine. Take everything without cutting it. That includes the fuel pump, filter, air cleaner, ECU, FI cables, trans etc. Go slow and get it right.

Keith, that grinder is aftermarket similar color LOL

I have the everything from the fuse box all the way back to the engine bay it look like no one mess with the wiring.
Will it be easier to take the fuse box and swap it?

Thanks Kent, i will do it right since it is extremely hard to find part around here.
Any other suggestions will be great thank so much.

Take switches and everything too if you can. 100% of the wiring and put it in the new one.

It just takes four wires to hook up the FI to a non fuel injection vehicle IIRC.

12+ B+ (unswitched)
12+ Ignition (switched)
Wire from starter solenoid to double relay to activate fuel pump and the CSV during cranking
Wire to fuel pump

12 volts positive as in battery voltage. The B+ wire is the big cable going to the starter from the battery so you can make a connection right on the big lug on the starter with all the other wires.

While you're rebuilding, send the FI harness to KYLE for rebuild, otherwise you will forever chase issues. Order all new vacuum hoses and source every part you're unsure of CSV, ETC.

Replace every fuel hose, maybe even buy a new harness from KYLE for the fuel pump, etc

That helped me tremendously with mine....

Take the fuel tank as the FI tank has a supply and return line.

It can be made to work with a single line, but two would be much preferred.
