Went to a swap meet yesterday and bought a 1 1/2 hp hit and miss. Needs a few parts fabricated but is 90% there and has good compression. It says Polson Implement Co. Seattle Wa. From what I understand it's a pre sparkplug model which would put it around 1900-1915.

Small time engines are a cool hobby. We always attended the Rock River Thresheree in Janesville, Wi. during my youth. The last time I went was around 2004 or so and I want to return. It's neat to see engines harnessed to either era accessories or something someone built as the engines range from 1.5hp to absolute monsters.

What are you plans? Freshen it up and take it to shows? Have you been warned that stuff like that is addictive?

It's fun to watch those & see the mechanisms that actuate to fire the cylinder when it drops below a certain RPM, I watched one for 10-15 minutes as it was churning ice cream at the Denton farm park during last years antique motorcycle show. This years it coming up next month.

The farm park that hosts it has a threshers convention & a lot of equipment stays on site.
A threshers reunion is scheduled for July.

I need to research and look at pics. I'll fabricate some parts and get it working. I go to an antique machinery every year so I can arm myself with knowledge there too. I've wanted one for the last decade so I'm pretty stoked now.

Is it going to be a "toy" or do you have a purpose for it?

Cool, (although powering an ice cream churn is a worthwhile cause (especially considering how much the ice cream was.)).

Those are cool. We have this place near us between Salem and Portland, they have a huge variety of working engines.
