Is ethanol strictly a no-no? Gas without it is available but a little more costly, and sometimes not as convenient to get to. Just curious, because I don't use ethanol gas in my 411. Bob |

I've been using E10 for years. _________________ Glenn

Its actually less of a big deal (running wise) with our old cars than it is with newer cars like my 2012 Golf.
There are definite differences. You will get slightly less gas mileage. Unless your engine is,really perfectly tuned.....you will probably not notice the 2-3% difference.
A lot of modern cars....because of the advanced self tuning and knock/spark sensing will never "feel" any difference in how the engine runs but definitely notice the gas mileage change.
However....the tuning of some modern vehicles....and a lot of the European and especially VW/Audi cars....definitely run slightly worse on some mixtures of E10 and in most cases its not JUST the ethanol....its the other additives combined for the different seasonal mixes. Its just how the systems are designed.
Having driven my 2012 golf, 2006 Jetta, 90 cabrio, from coast to coast....nearly.......I can tell you that all of them ran noticably odd especially at idle.....on E10 about eight out of 10 times. Lots of other modern VW, Audi, Porsche, BMW and Mercedes owners I know......report the same issues.
But running.....you should have litte or no issues in your stockish ACVW with E10.
That being said.....if you don't drive your ACVW regularly....especially with D-jet and L-jet....meaning you let it,sit for long periods.....you can and probably will have issues. This will depend on how good your fuel lines are and whether you at least start and circulate the fuel in the system.
The weak points in D-jet will be potential for rust on the metering plate in the fuel pressure regulator, the relief valve in the pump and the injector tips especially if you still run them with the plastic yellow protective tips on them. Ray |
