The tail lights came from 2 different spots, the first was the lack of good quality seals and the second came from an Australian fastback/coupe that molded his lights.
I used nuts and bolts and some panel adhesive to join the parts. I have some extra tail lights just in case I change my car back to stock
I have done some other work on the tail lights, I changed the bulbs to LED. And added a second double filament to the brake lights.
The bulbs and bases came from Ron Francis wiring, I used the same bases on the front lights as well. |
LED are GREAT but for any reason your turn signals don't blink or flasher don't work just replace either fronts are both rears for a normal bulb
Jack and I went thru this already but on a 6v system
NOT sure for a 12v |
What LED bulbs did you buy for a 6v system?
I have always heard you need a solid state flasher to use LEDs. |
NOT these tonite I will post the link
got them on ebay amber and clear they are GREAT and SAME brightness as Originals
that's the BEST result _________________ 68 T34 1600 Automatic

Thanks for the comments. 12V system, I have heard about the regular bulb trick. ( thanks Pedro ). These bulbs are from Ron Francis wiring as well as the bases. I have been a little bit worried about people not paying attention to brake lights and figured this was the better idea. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Couple of shots of the left side of the car. Got to swing the car to the right side. The Pedro panels are beautiful. Thanks again. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

More sanding today. Right side 1/4 panel, reprimed the panel last night, final sand this evening. I really do not like sanding the louvers. I have no finger prints left, there has got to be a better way. Tried wood paint stick, folded paper, today was using a plastic spreader. Seemed to do the trick.
Anyone have a suggestion for the next car? _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Had some time in the spray booth and got my bumpers painted.
The little jobs seem to take the time. As Bobnotch says, a little work is still work. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

A shot of the front. I removed the license plate lump and filled the bumper reinforcement holes. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Wow. Love it.
I remember that car from back in the day.
It was also in a California Caravan special in HotVWs too, right?
Wasn't it featured in show coverage also?
Funny how things turn out..
This was one of those cars that totally inspired me way back when.
Sad to see it gone now, actually, what a piece of history, but what you are building now makes it worth it..
That silver Notch was built by KCW, for Howard Creps, IIRC.
It had a lot of unique things about it - torsion raise, some creative cooling air ducting, etc..

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah I was hoping that the colors would be back in style I was hoping to redo the trip to California again, so that is one of the reasons for getting my butt in gear and getting it done. The cool thing is when we did that trip, no Internet, cell phones were the size of carry on luggage,no gps . We booked all the hotels by phone, had maps to look at state by state. We met some great people at the shows, and the Caravan was a blast. I think that going now we would need more time to do this, we would have to stop by and see all the samba members. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Sorry for the lack of pictures. Sanding and filler primer and sanding some more. I am beginning to wonder if the end is near. I finished the right door and right front fender. Need to finish around the panels on the right side and prime and sand, tomorrow.....
Since I sand and fill and sand at work, doing my own stuff is starting to get tiring. Sorry for the rant.... _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

No pictures, just a little update. I misplaced the camera and the laptop is giving me some grief. Sanding is almost finished, a little more to go. I have some garage cleaning on the go, but I am going to be painting it next week. Pictures will be posted.
The plan was to drive to Arizona for the Invasion, but some family issues have put that on hold. We will still be attending, just flying out. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Dry sanding done in 600. Wet sanding next
The reward for the sanding. Cheers _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Thanks for the comments. I am trying to get it in the booth next week. Hey GP, it looks like the invasion would be on the east coast 2018. Not sure where, but some time in July, John Jaranson would be looking for hosts as well as locations. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Spent the morning masking off the floor and wheel wells. Mask the windows and the roof.
Spray the white base. The clear will go on later. The plan is to clear both colors. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

DAMN, really nice progress. And yes, any progress is progress. But WOW, you're kicking that things butt. Looking fantastic. Can;t wait to see it clear coated.
Oh, and as far as doing louvers on the next car... sandblast. It makes that job so much easier. Ask my wife. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
