Wondering how much extra support are you going to provide to strengthen all them flat panels!?!
Other than the outer skins, nearly every single panel have "stampings" pressed in them to make them stronger and resistant to flexing. The "corrugated" cargo floors, the stampings on the front floor, belly pans and such. Yes, you are using thicker metal but a long flat panel is still prone to flex under stress.
At the very least, that build could make very good use of belly pans! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

what exactly makes a flat floor better than an original floor?
probably resonates like a drum going down the road. not my problem, but i am the curious kind _________________ regards

Okay here are some fabricated frame clips installed. One of the pics shows one of the new framerails. These are 14 guage.I have built numerous streetrods and put in flat floors and have never had a problem. There will be plenty of support so all you non believers should come for a ride when its finished. This isn't my first attempt at building vehicles.I will give you it is my first VW and I wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't my sons.I posted these posts on the thought that it may help some one that is trying to build a bus that the frame and complete bottom was no good.I could find no one that built the frame so I thought seeing that I was doing it maybe somebody else could benefit.

i find hot rods cool, would have one in a heartbeat, but the old-fashioned thirties ford, 50s hotrods had a full on frame and body that was bolted on.
VW buses are welded to the frame rails and rely on the structure of the body for strength. Sure you are taking this into consideration.
I would be curious to see what an Art Morrison frame for a bus would look like, the stuff they put under 50s and 60s cars when they get upgraded to 500+ horses.
i will keep watching _________________ regards

I definitely know how this bus is put together for I have cut all the old stuff out.I have taken all asspects of this build into consideration and feel 100% confident it will be as strong as or stronger than original.I definitely know about chassis and ect. as I build all my own chassis.I am actually building stronger than original rails.I thought that salvaging this old bus and sharing this build on this site would be a positive thing ,but so far a lot of negativity. While in Flordia for the winter, knowing I was going to start this build when I got home I looked at a lot of old buses that were on the road and by the looks of a lot of them it wont take much to be stronger and definitely safer. |
