Got it jammed this weekend, I'm liking the color so far, but I'm not too confident in being able to spray the car yet. I just can't seem to get my old gun working very smooth.

Thinking about picking up a new gun, but dang their expensive.

Conventional, my compressor isn't big enough for an HVLP. Some of it I can get smooth, some has a little orange peel, luckily it's under the trunk.

What's the outside temp and what speed reducer are you using?

It was about 75 today, and the single stage I'm using isn't reduced. It can be, but isn't required.

It will be getting the outside sprayed a birth though, and possibly by an actual painter. I haven't sprayed in 20 years.

If you are using the TCP global restoration shop brand it goes on much better reduced by 8-10%. They told me it didn't need to be reduced but I realized that it did after I painted the whole car Mad

She's ready for paint. Renting a booth next Saturday, and the good news is the owner said I can use his gun and he'll helpe set it up so it's ready to spray. Came out pretty straight for my first body job, hopefully will still look straight when it's painted.

Painting tomorrow, hopefully goes well. But in the meantime since I'm local to ISP, I sent Alex a shopping list, and picked up every piece of rubber for the car, side and rocker trim, window trim, etc...
After the car cures for a week or two I get to get started on the fun part!!

Got her painted up today, I'm happy with my body work, actually a little.surprised by it, but not too stoked on my Paint job. I got a couple runs here and there and a couple real minor dry spots. I guess I get to color sand it and buff it now. I was hoping somehow I would magically get a perfect a job.

Thanks, it's nice to actually see some REAL progress after sanding this thing for the last 2 months.

Had a decent day at Pomona swap meet, was able to pick up 3 of the correct hub caps for super cheap, and also picked up a nice bolt on roof rack, I don't have the heart to drill into the roof to put the VW one on.

Still need one more window crank and the rear view mirror.

Great job on getting the car prepped and painted. The fun begins with putting back together. Take your time getting the dash and headliner material in as well as re-gluing the seals back in. Looks really nice!

Need some help, I should have the car sanded and buffed by this weekend and I'm wanting to put the glass, rubber and trim back in the doors. What steps do I take, which pieces go first, middle, last?

I have all new ISP parts, the wind wings have all new rubber in them now, any tips or tricks?

I've searched as many threads as I can, I just can't find a step by step.

Here's how I've done the last three cars (and will likely do the next one):

Headliner > dash pad > windshield > side glass/pop outs > wind lace
--the headliner needs to go in before the windshield and side glass
--the dash pad is easier to install without the windshield

Pop outs - I used heat shrink on the hinge of the pop out, use a lube of some sort (I used Fluid Film 50% of the time and Windex the other 50% of the time) and work them into place while keeping the seal back at the B pillar. I didn't use tape because I found it was just getting in the way. These are the hardest to install of all of the glass. Take your time and go slow so you don't scratch the fresh paint. I kept the seal lubricated and worked it out of the way of the hinge with a silicone spatula/knife (new one).

The hatch glass can go in whenever you want. If you want an early/easy 'win', start here.

The doors can be built up at any stage since they don't affect anything else but you will need to be VERY careful when installing the assembled vent window / trim - it's a snug fit and it's real easy to scratch the doors installing it. Take your time and walk away if it gets hostile... I did vent window/trim, then door window trim, then glass/regulator. The doors were the most detailed and time-consuming. I installed inner scraper before the door glass but others may have done it the other way around.

If you've completely taken your vent window (wind wings) apart, you may want to outsource the rebuild of those to eliminate a point of frustration. Local glass shops don't usually charge much to reinstall the glass. I find it to be much more gratifying to drop them off in pieces and get them back complete so that I focus on the other details.

Once the headliner is installed, the glass is installed and the doors are built up, I then install the carpet, then the panels and seats. Last to be installed is the trim pieces (dash bits, etc.).

The timing of install for the hatch/frunk/door seals is up to you - I typically install them early so that I don't do something like accidentally slam the hood shut and damage the paint...I look at it as an 'ounce of prevention'.

Thanks for the reply, I had ISP rebuild the vent wings and the pop outs for me to save some time and hassle.

I'm going to tackle putting the door glass back together while I have some down time before the headliner, I just wasn't sure which pieces should go together first. It sounds like you do this order, correct me if I read it wrong.

1.Vent/Wind wings
2.Outer scraper with trim piece
3.Inner scraper
4. Felt for track
5. Glass

I'm debating on doing the headliner myself still, the labor rate that I'm being quoted so far, is leaning me towards doing it myself to save $600-$800. I left the original headliner in it as it was in pretty good shape, I just pealed it off of the window frames and taped it back, but I'm not sure I'll be able to stretch it back tight and glue it, or if I should just go buy a TMI one and start from scratch. Never done one before, but I did find quite a bit of threads here.

After the headliner is in, I'll do the dash then the rest of the windows.
