Can anyone give me some tips on where is a good, close, safe place to park truck and trailer towing a car for the show? I have no problem arriving there early to get a decent spot, just don't want to drive too far to get into the show _________________ cheap, fast, or reliable. Pick two

There's usually a small bbq at bugformance of san jose on saturday, the day before the show.
As for parking trailers, you should be able to park it along Phelan St, diagonally across from Kelley park, where the non-registered folks will be lining up. sometimes you can find enough space to fit a truck and trailer. _________________

I didn't per-register for Kelley Park this year. Wedding, honeymoon in Hawaii, yada, yada
Anyways.... I've never tried to get in with my bus when I wasn't per-registered. I read the info about lining up on Phelan Ave. with the swappers. How many cars that didn't pre-register get in? Has anybody had luck with this in previous years?
Thank you for any help or info you can provide. |

Nick, there is truck/trailer parking in the lower lot at Kelley Park.
Once you're in the line, you'll get sent down to the lower lot anyways, there you can unload your car and wait in the pre-reg line. _________________ Jim Kikuchi

Hopping on a B-737 on Wednesday morning from St. Louis to San Jose, CA to hi-tail it out there to attend all the festivities of the Kelley Park weekend, this is always my "season opener"! Must be my 15th or 16th K.P. weekend. I can't wait to be touching vintage VWs and beers tomorrow afternoon with my buddies...
I'll be taking delivery of my new Okrasa engine and firing it up for the first time too... Rumor has it that it "may" be installed for the weekend in Ray's Split-rear window "Pan-Americana race" tribute car. We'll see.

Last year, with a big crowd, no one was turned away. But the venue has strict rules to keep all cars off the grass. So we are limited to what we can "shoehorn" in. Best bet...get there early to be in line. Show management will squeeze in everyone if it can. Good weather means we're likely to have a big attendance... _________________ Happy to be alive. I didn't want to be the first to reply post show.
Yep, it was a good time. lots of cool car, lots of catching up with friends, we sold some parts, scheduled some new work into the shop and had an all around great time.....
Once we got in.........................
No surprise this year was a train wreck at the front gate, as it is EVERY YEAR.
Vendors, Sponsors, Swappers, joe blow bay windows drivers all funneled
into one line with one person manning the gate at 6:30 trying to
sort out who is who.
Really it's a joke.
As a SPONSOR I'd like to get my promised early
entrance so I can get a decent spot and set up at least one time.
In 12+ years it hasn't happened yet.
I know it's not Joy's fault at the gate, so this is not an attack at her. Somewhere further down the
line a change needs to be made.
The club *needs* to make better use of the lower lot.
Make separate lines (and educate the people
running them) Make more than one copy of the vendor / sponsor list and
have people in the lower lot check it before sending people to the main
gate.
Here's a rough idea that may work. I'm not sure of the exact break
down with pre- reg, swappers, vensdors / sponsors, etc.
6:30 - 7:00 SPONSORS get in. Not a sponsor but in the sponsor line,
you're out. Go to the back of the right line to try again.
7:00 - 7:30 VENDORS get in. Not a vendor but in the vendor line,
you're out. Go to the back of the right line and try again.
7:30 - 8:00 SWAPPERS get in. Not a swapper but in the swapper line,
you're out. Go to the back of the right line and try again.
8:00 - ??? General admission
All of this needs to take place somewhere OTHER than the main entry gate.
If some knucklehead can't follow the rules and gets in the wrong line
after being told by a volunteer (I know you guys aren't paid) the
correct line to get in. Show no remorse and send them to the back of
the correct line. There is PLENTY of room in the lower lot for this to
happen.
I will admit I am part of the problem. After so many years of being
herded through looping long lines in the lower lot to find I've paid
for early entry and am now in the line for joe blow who knows what, I
avoid the lower lot all together and cut right to the gate when I pull
up. Many people saw me do it this morning I'm sure.
Would I like to volunteer to help make things smoother. Definitely. Am
I able to drive 2½ hours for a monthly planning meeting, no. But I am
willing to give my input any other way possible.
Again good time, but the gate / entrance is a joke. As I was sitting there Sunday I remembered why I took a 2 years break... |
