Sorry guys. Quick question here. What thread are the two screws that hold the large fan on? They are the cause of my rubbing noise. Mine seem to have gone AWOL in rebuild. Thank you _________________ 67 Steel slider

The two threaded holes in the big fan are for a puller. They have no bearing on the fan itself whatsoever.
If your fan is rubbing and not knocking your most likely suspect is that the bolts holding the front part of the aluminum fan housing to the case have backed out and are rubbing on the fan. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Those 2 holes are for aiding in the removal of the big fan. There aren't any bolts that go in them. They holes are however M8x1.25 thread.
If you've got some extra movement from the fan, then it needs rebuilding. There's a thread on it that can be found doing a search. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks very much guys! I didn't remember there being screws in there. There is however some rocking of the fan and can see movement through the holes that are threaded. Id assumed I'd missed screws. I have a video on my phone _________________ 67 Steel slider

Another thing to check is the big bolt holding the fan/pulley in place. Many manuals repeat the Bug's ≈35 ft-lb torque, but the Type 3 is more like ≈90. It may be coming loose. |

True. It was damn tight with the engine in the car which is why I dropped it out last night. I'll remember when I'm putting it back on to make sure its FT! _________________ 67 Steel slider

Uh oh.
I've had lots of problems with mismatched and misidentified main bearing sets (new non steel backed type) causing perceptible movement of the crankshaft after as little as a few minutes of running. Get the fan off and install the bolt to the crank and rock it up/ down/ to/ fro and tell us what you find. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I don't care what you put in there- it won't solve anything. Those holes are for a puller!!! _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Do the bolt in the crank test before you rebuild the fan... _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.
