Hi nice 02
I am just doing the same as you with my 03 had to put new pans in , all the pan is now done powder coated and stainless , just prepping the body for paint , hopefully should be painted by the end of August .
Thankfully mine didn't need new heater channels but needed some welding on the napoleons hat.
good luck with yours

Cheers, thanks for the support. I'll add more pictures to my 'gallery' when I have time. It has been a fun 8 months. I started not being able to weld!! Good luck with yours. Where in the UK are you? Any pictures?

Fantastic, thanks for putting the pictures up. I can understand what your going through!
I have more stuff on my Facebook page (grahamcabriolet) and the VW Beetle Cabriolet Owners Club GB forum (beetlecabrio.co.uk), though you need to be a member to see the pictures.
Once I work out how I managed to put the same picture on the site several times I'll upload a few more of the 1000 pictures of the restoration. |

If you are already hosting your pictures on another site that is easiest, just copy the image URL into the post here using the "Img" tag above. |

Hi,
I'm just about to weld in a rear quarter panel on my 02 beetle and I want to minimise distortion. Is it better to weld it along the red or green line shown in the photos? I assume welding on the inside of the door frame will be better and easier to prep for spraying.
Thoughts please.javascript:emoticon('')

Looks like you are doing a great job.very comprehensive.as for the welding I think the red line would be the best option still a lot of work .good luck . I have managed to get mine painted and back on it's pan , I'm just doing the electric s now . |

Glad to hear you’re making good progress. The chassis is well under way and the body is off for spraying at Proline Earls Barton Northants early next year. Still plenty to do over the next few months. Missed this year’s deadline for completion, but still keen to make Stanford Hall 2017!! I think the best welding approach is the inner door (red line); I've not done too bad for someone who'd never welded before I started the restoration! |

You have done an excellent job, I wish I had sent mine to a pro spray shop but funds would not allow !!! my friend is doing the very same as us with a triple white and he has had a concours paint job that set him back nearly £8k !!! staggering I could not afford that , but his will be spot on like yours.
Hopefully I should make it to Stanford hall next year it would be nice to meet up .
where abouts in the midlands are you . |

Thanks for the positive comments, good motivation. I'm in Northampton. Where are you?
The spray job is £6k, the biggest problem I've had is getting someone with a good reputation to take it on. I had it lined up for a local spray shop and they kept delaying so I walked away. I then had to join another queue to get it in, but I have a written agreement this time!!!
A friend recently had a show standard respray on a Ford Escort Mk2ico and that cost £11k, so I guess the triple white cost is reasonable for concours standard.
I'm involved in the VW Cabriolet Owners Club GB and the Leicestershire and Warwickshire VW Owners Club. |

Hi we are based in the north of England , we did visit vw action this year , I was a bit disappointed with it in terms of lack of trade dealers and no cabrios in the show lol, hopefully maybe able to sort that out next year .
I use to visit vw action many years ago when it was at stoneliegh and really enjoyed that , but a lot different in those days !!!!
I will re-join the cabrio owners club in the new year , I did feel there was a lack of info on there , I have seen your thread on there very good , I had my build on there when I first got my barn find !!
hope you get your paint sorted out soon what colour are you going for?

Hi Gary, VW Action is not what it was at Stonleigh, I used to go in the mid eighties, showing my age a bit, literally. Stanford Hall is a really good event and the biggest turn out of Cabriolet club members. Next year's VWCOCGB International is in Scotland and we will probably go, assuming the cab is done!!! I've not update the club forum thread in ages, I tend to just put the odd bit here and on my Facebook page, see grahamcabriolet. Graham |

Hi, good to see your update on the club website! Looking really good, well worth all the hard work; like the spray booth!! Look forward to seeing it some time soon. Are you off the the clubs international in Scotland? My cab is now in the spray shop Proline (proline-paint.com), at last! Gareth the guy who runs it is a fellow vw fan. |

The club gets a fantastic deal from KHM https://cabrio.de, if your friend is not in the club then it may be worth joining just for the hood. I'll let you know if we can get to duvfreez and we chew the fat on cab resto stuff. Regards Graham |
