Looks great, I am loving the progress. Shaving the oil cooler tin and relocating the oil cooler would be nice, but you will need a place for a oil cooler. (ask me how I know ). Keep up the metal madness _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Thanks for all the complimentary comments. Helps keep me motivated.
No progress on car this weekend, visiting Pittsburgh and helping out on a drywall job here for more funds. Should be back at it on Monday. |

alright, small progress.
reshaped t3 cylinder tins so they are less ugly
built a battery tray, obtained battery
also purchased enough wiring to hopefully build a complete wiring harness. wont arrive for a week or so though. |

started today by making the panel that will hold the fuse panel
then started trying to figure out how to close up the back of the interior.
larger arch left over from hoops for bubble top welded in place. smaller arch bent up around a rear brake drum and just sitting in place for now while I decide whether I like it or not.
so the smaller arch will be left open to expose the transmission. space between two arches will be filled. space above outer arch will be blended into a parcel tray of sorts. that's the current plan at least, not sure if anyone has any suggestions? |

I like the idea of exposed transmission but you will get a lot of heat rolling in from the opening. Maybe a lexan cover so you can see it but eliminating the air flow? |

well ended up just bubbling the access panel for the transmission. looks more factory and matches bubble for steering box. also couldn't really envision how to make panels that would expose enough of transmission to look cool.
template shows how little of the trans would be exposed if I had cut a hole. decided that looked kind of dumb and a bubble would be better.
also got some wires in. still waiting on a few more things before I can start wiring harness.

The bubble-panel looks good! I imagine it'll be removable for service? _________________ Two Bugs-

That looks really close to a rear apron, perhaps you could start fabbing those up to fund the project. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

There's other folks that can fab up stuff a little nicer than I can. But yea, if anyone needs any little bits for their projects I'm willing to try fabbing them. Always looking for ways to find the project... |

more wires came in. everything for harness and battery hook up here except connectors. going with original style crimp connectors, had to buy new tool which is always fun.
no other progress because ive been working a demo job taking a Detroit house down to the studs. |

4RCustoms on eBay. Best deal I found on short lengths of striped wire. Battery cables from another eBay store. Also different sources for terminals and crimpers |

I started buying my wire from Del City. They sell on Amazon as well as direct. Only problem is that you can only buy full spools (100' or so), but a lot of their prices for 100' are what many places charge for 25' or less.
You need to be concerned, particularly with large wires, that they are all copper and not just copper coated aluminum. I discovered that way after the fact on one project. Ran some nice beefy power wires that was of adequate size, only later to discover that they were aluminum. You typically need to step up to the next size for aluminum wires. Fortunately I went heavier than I needed, so I should be OK. There's quite a few brands on Amazon that are not 100% copper and its not always stated. But the Del City stuff is 100% copper. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

good advice. didn't want more clutter n the house so I didn't buy much more wire than I needed. everything is copper.
started wiring harness today. figured out how dash will be laid out in the process. not much to photograph but took a couple snaps.
final trimming to take place later. |

ran battery positive cable and gas line thru tunnel yesterday
back to metal work today. fabricated sides of rear parcel tray and just finished blanking the top panel. jigsaw seems to have walked away so taking a break before hammering out flange. will likely add some ribs to top panel as well.
edges formed from leftover 1/2"x1/2" square stock from the hoop materials.
blanks
ribs
welded
top blanked
