From the pictures you posted, it looks pretty much just like the one in our '55 sedan. What parts are you having problems with? |

Shift rod is to long and pedal assembly has nothing for gas pedal to attach to? I bought the car all taken apart so Im not sure if it is the pan or I just got random parts with it. Oh and it has 2 right rear tortion bars that look new is that a big deal? |

Without a doubt, the pan you have pictured is 1953-55
Gas pedal? On a Pre '57 car, there is no actual pedal. VW used a roller pedal, which was attached directly to the cast Aluminum base-

When torsion bars are first manufactured, the manufacturer usually stamps a "L" & a "R" on either end of the torsion bar. This is so they aren't mixed up later in life. The torsion bars twist a certain direction after use, therefore you don't want them twisting the opposite direction after the suspension has settled in.
You claim they look new. Most torsion bars are either an Orange/Red color or Black. Being they reside inside the torsion tube housing, they don't normally get dirty.
Example: These torsion bars are marked "R"
Example: These torsion bars are marked "L"

What are you basing the measurement against? It's possible you have the wrong one, but is there a possibility you have it installed incorrectly as well? Shift rod likes like this-

My memory is foggy, but I think that the undercarriage also has a frame number (not just a VIN number) that you can use to date your chassis. I think it's stamped up front near the shock tower. Can someone else expound on that? _________________ Have nice 914, want nice Bug

It's on the driver's side brake hose clamp. The OP posted a picture of it. He just didn't add it to the post.
