A friend of ours stumbled into a guy at a tire store claiming to a have a few vw and porche cars in a barn. The friend passed the info on to us and we decided to go on a treasure hunt with the friend. We find the (Undisclosed Location) and there is only a few trucks sitting in the weeds . Then the owner takes us around back to a 1900's 2 story barn. This is where it gets interesting. Approaching the barn we can see the top of a few bugs on the second story threw an open window. We go into the barn climbing over misc. parts and tools. The first cars in sight are a blue bay window bus, a torn down ghia, and a yellow Porche 356 in great condition. Once we were done drooling over those he takes us up the stairs were we can see a Yosemite tour bus and a late model square back in a different room. Once up the stairs the first thing in view is 55 oval bug! Decent condition with the floors needing new pan halfs on a 69 pan. Unfortunetley the PO suicided the doors but did it right. Next he shows us a 74 bug. And a 67' bug ( interested in it ) that has no rust. The color is lotus white. The owner stated that it had been wrecked in the front but he fixed the dents. He said he had all the fenders. We couldn't tell it had been crashed. We stumble back down stairs and he says he has 21 VWs altogether! He shows us a red 74 that was in a basement where we couldn't get a close look. Also spotted in the basement was a set of yellow 70's square headlight front fenders. He leads us to yet ANOTHER barn that he says has a 69 vert and another 67 bug. This barn was not accessible due to the overgrown blackberry and poison oak bushes. Hopefully we can get in it at the next search of the place. Now let's see if we can make a deal! The owner says he wants 2000 for the 67 lotus white bug. And 800 for the oval! Our friend has a friend interested in the oval. The owner says that if we get both he will do 800 for the 55' and 1600 for the 67. At this point we had to leave. Hopefully we will get pictures the next look around. What a true barn find. |

Small update. The owner called our friend and said he would only take 950 for the oval. Our friend and his friend are no longer interested. What would be the better choice in long run? If we were able to find room and the money. Options: A 1967 vw bug no rust lotus white with all sheet metal no engine for 1600 VS 1955 oval suicide doors needs new pan with ?grey? paint no engine no glass or wiring ( basically a shell with suspension ) for 950. |
