So we got the bumper mounts tacked on. We mocked up the muffler deck and it is all off. I now have to get it all correct. What a pain. Slow but steady.

So we have been working hard but have found a lot of rust. When I say a lot I mean ALOT! So, even though we have a sand blasting booth we decided to have it glass bead blasted. Tomorrow we are taking it to a company in Independence, MO to have it fully stripped. When I say stripped I mean every nook and cranny. We loaded the body today into the box van we rented so it can stay out of the rain predicted. I hope to have more soon.

Good plan! Then you can really get to work patching it when you get it back! Cool

So we went to a Media blaster and had him blast the bug. It was a pain but we got it done. Let me explain. We had to get it there (one hour away) and then get it home with a lot of rain in the forecast. The box van we got worked great.

We then got it finished and as we drove away with it in the back it started to pore.

Once home we put it back in the booth and began to clean into so we could prime it.

We then got it primed and ready for metal work. We put a coat of filler primer on it. The stuff dries fast.

So we started to work on the metal this weekend. While I welded my Son started to tear down the 1200 CC engine. It looks bad but just needs some lovin. We think rings, cleaned up heads and maybe new bearings and she will be fine. Oh don't forget a lot of cleaning an painting. We will be switching to 12v also. Parts needed but know how to do it. While my son worked on the engine I kept going on the welding. We got it all lined up with the finders and the rear apron and added a stiffener short term to hold it after we got it lined up.

Body's looking a lot better already! That engine looks a lot better than most of the ones I've gotten for parts too! Cool

So we have started on the Right Rear Support Bracket. Found a lot of rust there.

So as we are setting it up and making sure it will go in the right place we notice the bracket is wrong. It is angled wrong. I then had to break the manufactured welds to reapply it in the right angle. What a pain.

The yellow line is the center of the current bracket and the Red line is were it should be.

That's unfortunately a common issue with most cheaper panels, next to thinness. Also, and I'm sure you know this already, the paint on the repair panels should be removed before priming/painting as it's just cheap rust-deterrent for during shipping and peels easily. Good work on correcting it! Cool

I will have my son sandblast it. I noticed the thickness issue also. I will be adding second layer of steel to the bracket like a factory bracket. Notice the factory double layers.

So after the debacle with the Support being at the wrong angle I final got time to work on the welds and get it all back together.

Once I get all the welds In the area done I will add a thin layer of Bondo and you should never see the difference.

Wow, that's a clean case! What'd it take to get it so clean, and are you going to coat or seal it somehow?
