Sounds like Seal Team Six has a future mission to Yan Rami's house... Of course to just retrieve the bible.

Thanks for the scan usarieman Exclamation Exclamation

So this white Hebmüller VW that was featured in the Foreign Car Guide in August 1961 a few years later surfaced
again but was painted a different color. I thought it was a new Hebmüller VW at the time. A closer look at the
license plate revealed it was the same Hebmüller VW. It had some more changes as well over the years with photos.

So I will show you all the other interesting information about this Hebmüller VW and what its 14-00xxx number is . . .

OH I forgot . . . it is kept a secret in the Hebmüller Bible by Yan Rami . . . .

In fact the front page faded out a bit.
It was yellow at that point, not white.

The white one from the mag 61 is actualy now some sort of red paint . It is a 49 model but built in jan 51. The vin is 10 137 815 and I am told it is body nr is 401. But, the date of built is 0401 so that could be a mix or just coïncidence. Owner at that time was KEN Swan.
It is last seen in a garden half sunk in the ground. The current owner mailed me that it is current in a barn and fairly in good shape but need a resto. However, at the date he mailed me, was NOT for sale and supposed to be kept like that. When it is still not restored, it is one of the last cars that is untouched besides a repaint.

Sorry, I don't know Heb's that well. How could it be a '49 model, but built in 1951? I could understand if it was considered a 1950, but a 1951? Is it because of the factory fire, and it was assembled from spare parts after the factory burned to the ground?

Yes, Peter, 1951?
A Body Nr. 401 would be very late 1949 to me.
So beeing a 1949 car that was finished early january 1950 at Hebmüller is possible. But 1951? How?

Wel. Typing on a phone with thick fingers causes faults... it is indeed 1950. My fault sorry, but you all took attention and noticed it

This car is a without question a 1949. As shown in the picture, the car is a pale yellow. Those are my parents in the picture...carrying my older brother before he was born. The red convertible next to the Hebmuller is a 1955. The picture was taken in the South Mountain Reservation in Millburn, NJ in March of 1961. That's why there are no leaves on the trees.

The September 1961 issue shows a step-by-step photo illustration, done by my father, my uncles and George N. Freund, of the chassis swap from a 1955 sedan to the Hebmuller. George was a writer & photographer of The Foreign Car Guide.

The color was changed from yellow, to black and finally an AMC red paint that it still wears, but has faded to pink.

The `49 is still owned by my parents and it is resting in a 6 car garage, next to a 1966 Eriba Puck trailer, in Pennsylvania.

The `49 was purchased from a used car lot in Point Pleasant, NJ on June 14th, 1960 for...$425.00.

What a fantastic post, I love thesamba for unearthing such rich history on our cars as a whole and specific cases like your family's story. So glad to hear you still have the car.

Thanks Rkeyworth, for the scan. Another part of the history on that heb is known now. Should be car 401 but not sure as I wrote, the date of built is also 04/01/1950 and on the aufbauplate is only visible 0410 after the production number.

... on that cover is a Morris Minor 1000 convertible... Had a couple of those. Here's a black one in 1974. Might be as much fun as any Heb, just worth less...green 11G, on the right.

The owner just send me some detailed picts and can confirm my idea.. it is not Heb 401... it is a bit later. It is or 423 or 428.. The last digit is a bit rusty .

We keep working on the identification . Thanks to The samba. Wink
