Got it fired up Friday and back on the road. Still sorting out the details, carb tunig and timing but for the most part running decent. The 110 cam really is pretty lumpy and the sidewinder is a little lounder than the one I had in my bus. Glad to have the engine back in and running. The rebuilt tranny is nice and tight.

PIcked up the rear bumper and going to install hitch so I can haul my bike.

I took the thing on a 120 mile road trip this weekend,FUN. It ran great and made it up my drive way that only jeep make it up. The posi rear did the trick along with the 1835. I, stopped in a garage sale on my bicycle ride and found some old lic. plates I had to go back because I was on my bike. I went back in the thing and the guy said who ownes the thing? I said me and he handed me a old club thing club news letter from 1989 befoere the inner webs. It is cool and enjoyed hearing about his thing. Then I was going back through the old plats and found a set from 73 so I can put them on my thing. The other score was a vintage license plate from from a VW dealer in st. louis. I been looking for a lic plate frame. Score!.
I do have something going on with the jets or fuel pump. I will be cruising about 65 and when I give it more gas it has a miss but keeps pulling. Not sure if its the fuel pump or jets idle or main.? Any help.

I made some matts for the front from the link Kames posted on his build.

I like how they turned out and for 30$ not to bad on price.

I finally installed a bigger idle jet and runs a little smoother. I also picked up a wheel adapter to have the balance check on the wheels.

Its been a while since I updated on project.

Did another 120 mile road trip. Fun.

Decided I didnt like how the dual 34's worked with cam and exhaust so,I upgraded to dual 40 IDF much better. Smoother and pulls better.

Been sorting out 50-60 wheel wobble. I gone through about 6 tires to get a couple good ones. I am still sorting it out but I can get up to 65 and cruise pretty good. I ended going with bigger generals in the rear and bfg in front. Staggared look. I tired the generals in the front but felt they are to big. but look good in the rear.

I just about have the vibrations sorted out, I was having some, when I left off the gas about 65 and I could feel rear end shimmy and would go away when back on gas. I decide to change rear coil overs to KYBs, after I had changed the front and felt improvement. Much better with KYB all around and better ride. Did loose that much in height but worth better ride. I still have one front wheel that has slight wobble I can feel about 61mph, It will cruise pretty esay at 70, probably wouldnt go much faster than that. Its alot more fun to drive now without feeling like its going to wobble apart.

R&P. It was a stock thing tranny, I had rebuilt here in town and had him install the super diff., I cant rember name but can find out.

Front: BFG 195/75/14 Road force Balanced,
Rear: General Grabber 27.5x8.5x14 Road forced balanced.

Brand new PRT wheels, they look just like Ultra wheels 205/70/15 Geolanders,. I had to buy new lug bolts and machine down so, would not hit brakes on inside. I had bought the tires for the Syncro but were to small. Fit right on Thing. I like the look, the rear could be raised up just a little may do the rear torrison adjustment. BTW with the wider stance Thing feel a little more stable and no death wobble.

Hi imtb,
I like the tire/wheel combination you have going there. I'm still new to Things (pun intended) and am wondering what you meant by machining so it won't hit the brakes on the inside. Is there any rubbing noticed by this tire combination? What size did you select Arco 4 15x4 or Arco 7 15x6.5? I want to try those Dyna beads with these tires, since folks seem to have difficulty balancing the wide rim opening.

I'm thinking of putting on front disk brakes in the future and wonder if this combination would work. Right now it's all 14 inch stock and I think I have 2 non-Thing rims one in the back, and the spare.

Lots of little ankle biters to take care of before I can get it inspected and made road worthy for VA.

I wouldnt mess with the dyna beeds, use the money to buy the wheel adapter for balancing the wheels.

Thanks imtb - will be awhile before I get new tires and wheels. Need to work off the small issues before I get it on the road. Were the bolts too long and you had to machine the length down?

I 've had the Thing parked in storage for the winter but, my Nephew wanted to use the thing as his back drop for his weddin aanoucment. Here is a few ics. I did take it out for a ride after the pics and it was fun.

He didnt know I about my single cab winter project. So few more pics.
