There was also a section which was thin so I cut that out too . I had to make a buck to form the panel in one piece.
Cleaned up the inside more.
Almost ready to start attaching the front on for good
Tacked
Kept a check on this
So much time welding this on and being extra careful with dressing the welds after
No filler

After welding the tank support on I trimmed the lip so that it flowed straight
Cheeky pic through the glove box

Onto the other side and I knew this was going to be more of a challenge as mixing a new style quarter with an old front would be difficult to get to look right. There was numerous differences.
In the pic you can see I had to add a piece to the new front as it had been previously cut short.
Notice too the scorch mark, this is where I had to heat up the metal to get rid of the bulge pressing for the twin brake master cylinder feed pipes to pass between the tank and the quarter. This took quite a while to get right as the metal wasn't playing ball to start off with.
Like I thought , this side was proving to be a pain :D
See if you can spot the other problem

Next
The speedo cable clip was wrong for my car so I modified it to the correct sixties spec
I did think about cutting it out and welding this genuine section in but I came up with another idea
I lined up the old section and sprayed some primer through it to get an outline
Cut two slots
I then made a form to replicate the bridge
Tacked the former onto the quarter

Next I had to do something about the crappy factory pressing
Matched to the other side
Tacked on
Wing on to check
Seems to fit ok

Looking at this there seems to be a common issue, I could have easily welded it all together and hammered it into place but it would have looked crap so I spent a lot of time making it good
The only way was to make a pie cut and add a section in
I was so careful to get this right, the bonnet and wings were constantly on and off
Autocraft front valence fits nice
Obviously had to do the same on the other side
Other bumper mount

Well folks, this is it for now. Like I said I just wanted to show the amount of work that's gone into my bug so far. I`ve been doing many many more hours work on all the other details which I will keep to myself for now. I`ve done more bodywork and there is still lots to do but you get the picture?! Its got to be ready for paint by spring next year and then its off for its new coat of sea blue by someone who knows what it takes to paint a show winner. :D Cheers for the compliments
Parting shot. Bye for now...
