I came across an ad for a low priced 1970 Ghia coupe an hour away from me and had to go look at it. Well........I saw it yesterday and I picked it up today. Here is my barn find:

The chassis is going to require some work (new pans) but the body, while all the pain is cracking and peeling off, is solid. Little to no bondo.......woohoo!

I hate those mirrors but AWESOME find.
I was riding the motorcycle last weekend down rt33 towards West VA and saw a farmers land with an old chicken building and inside were a lot of mirrors. I'm dying to know what kinds of old cars he has in there. I want to go back and see.
Great car. _________________ -Jared

Just some clear coat to preserve the "patina"?? Anything special hiding under the decklid?
I'm curious to see what you do with it Aswell ! _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

Lol........after I washed it the mirrors were the first thing that came off!!
Not a fan of the patina look. Besides, this paint was put on thick and is cracking all over the place. It looks like a dried river bed! lol
I do like the color - it's British Racing Green. Nice and metallic. |

Nice find! How about some pics now that you've washed it and removed the mirrors? |

Ok, I'll take some pics tonight. The inside is nasty and I've already started taking it apart. The seats are the worst part - man do they stink. I've already ripped one down to the springs and will be doing the same for the other this afternoon.
Pics to follow. |

Finally got some time to play with it. Started cutting out the dashboard prepping for the new one.
I was just going to replace a small section:
But it was more damaged than I thought so I cut out most of the face:
Getting it ready for the 66 transplant:
Looks like it's going to fit!!:
Now I get to blast and prime the new dash before I weld it in. |
