Now that you have a larger (new) engine, and that you have individual carb throats per cylinder, your idle should be greatly improved, and have more torque to overcome any drag from the auto. You "might" see a small lope with the 110 cam, but if you do, it will be minimal. I am running one in my 2110 Type 1.
Looks Good on installing the barbs . If you want to clean up the engine compartment a little bit, you can make some vacuum unions like I did. Just go to your favorite flaps, and get some hard brake tubing that is about the same size as your barbs. Also find a screw that will fit the ID of the tubing. Cut it into three pieces, and fish-mouth one end of each small tube with a dremel.
You can then make a little jig, to hold the small tubes the same distance apart as the barbs, and weld everything together.
Last, drill through the ends of the small tubes, into the big tube to create your openings, then drill through the end of the long tube to get out the shavings. Use carb cleaner and compressed air to blow everything out, and it will give you a lot cleaner engine compartment.

I just used a T and put it sideways. I was planning to install my engine this weekend but ran out of time because I was supposed to drive an AE92 I bought home but the axle broke.
I like the idea of a vacuum manifold. That will look really clean under the tin.
Notice how the manifold to carb studs don't stick way out now
Should have the engine in tuesday so until then...

Looks good.
I've got an AE92 here for my daily winter driver (92 Geo Prizm). Great little car. To learn more about them, join the forums over at www.toyotanation.com , as there's a healthy community over there like this forum has. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I have been looking at 900-1200sq/ft houses with a garage and they run about $1200-1400. My last day of work is the 31st so i have only been able to check once or twice a week or look online. _________________ 71 squareback (1904 A/T)

Yeah I noticed getting the idle right for the auto is tough. I actually do a lot of FI stuff, just not on aircooled yet.
At this point I really wish I went with megasquirt instead of carbs. |
If you're really good with FI, then you probably should have gone that route. Granted due to engine size you'd be locked into running individual throttle bodies, versus using the stock t-3 plenum and runner set up (too small for your engine size). I'm sure Nate and some of the others here running MegaSquirt could have helped you out in fine tuning it. I'm still learning some of the different things it can do, but I know I'd like to try it some day. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

So.. Its almost time to get back into the world of ACVWs. With a much shorter break than last time!
I finally moved last month and my car has been at my parents house. My dad got bored and got it running and moved so the trans I partially rebuilt works great.
Unfortunately the weber carb is sticking on the drivers side so I have to go out there and figure out that problem
Other than that the car runs great so hopefully update on sunday.
I live in an apartment now so I need to sell my ae92 to make room for the square. My poor b5 is going to get parked outside soon...and just after it got used to the garage _________________ 71 squareback (1904 A/T)

I got the carbs jetted from ACN and have not taken them apart except to set the float. I am not sure exactly whats wrong since I havent looked at it yet.
My dad told me he thinks either something is wrong with the carb itself, or I need a heim joint extenison to help the linkage push it correctly. His explanation was the linkage pushes the right carb fine, but the left one doesnt move, or moves very little. He said something about using a quadrajet return spring and that helped.
I got some hex bolts i'm going to use to replace the stud/nut fasteners that barely fit next to the oil cooler tin. I will get a better look when I pull the carb off to do that. _________________ 71 squareback (1904 A/T)

Everything went according to plan (for once). Pulled the carb and adjusted the butterflies. it seemed like everything shifted when I swapped the linkage adapter from the front to the back.
Drove up and down the street a few times and everything seems to work good. The shifter linkage needs to be re adjusted, but the 40s run wayyyy better than the 34 icts.
I also picked up a stroker motor with a burned piston from a friend. Its in pieces except for the short block, but parts are nice. Time to find a bug to put it in..... _________________ 71 squareback (1904 A/T)

ahhhh.... what good vw times these are.
I finally got my car driving and at my house. It really feels like a long lost friend is back. A very needy and smelly friend
I have some electrical issues I'll be posting my fixes for so stay tuned. I plan to finally fix the fuel smell that the car had when i bought. even after all the fixes it still smells like gas while my super doesn't and I've had enough! _________________ 71 squareback (1904 A/T)
