Thanks for the motivating words everyone! It's a long process to put one of these together.

Hope to make the Burger Meet in Seattle with my car! More sanding to knock off the peal and polish this weekend - the hood that is. The body is really nice and smooth already so it won't take so much time. I'll be in touch with you to meet there anyway.

how loud is the exhaust? Can you have a conversation in the buggy with the motor running? Going down the hwy, is it any louder than a normal buggy because of all the wind? When you are WOT does it attract a lot of attention? Does it drone at hwy speeds? I know that's a lot of questions, sorry about that LOL! I'm just curious to see how annoyed my wife might be Laughing

The exhaust tip is from Outfront Motorsports - it sounds about as loud as a Harley going down the road, yes it rumbles. I only put 65 miles on the car before it was disassembled for painting none of which was on the freeway. But you can have a conversation in the car driving around town. It's LOUD at WOT.

I will build a muffler for it this summer to quiet it down a little but I don't think you have to. I'll post some pics and a video when it is built.

I would greatly appreciate it and I do appreciate the feedback. I've got my motor secured and will be dumping right out of the turbo myself. I'm curious to see what you do for a muffler when you decide to run one.

We added one of these - http://www.carchemistry.com/cc-inserts/ to the turbo on the Manxter with a very short exhaust pipe and it cut the sound by @ 1/3. Tom

This is why I love the interwebs!! Thanks Tom! Looks like a smart solution, does it restrict the flow by a lot?

No real restriction. We shortened the center pipe but left it open. They sell it with 2 caps for the center pipe, one closed end & one with a hole @ 1/2 the dia of the pipe, so you can make it even quieter. We welded it in, but it can be pop riveted for a trial. Tom

Direct Dump from the Turbo is what the Silver Manbxter DualSport had

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

You get away with it on a turbo as the turbo kills a lot of noise.

But it was still to nasty IMO and is much better with the MagnaFlow on it, same position, still center dump and VERY quite.

I use the same muffler on all my buggies and it has no reduction in flow according to wide band and data logs.

It is a bit harder to see on the DSBE but it tucks in nice and has no issues bouncing around etc like some setups. Sits behind the number plate and exits to the center

I lasted less than 2 weeks with a short straight pipe off my turbo. While it sounded cool for a while it quickly got annoying on any length of a drive.
I put a SuperTrapp muffler on mine and it's so much nicer to drive.

When you have the Wife along for a 900 mile cruise it makes conversation easier when it's quieter.

Sure, It's nothing fancy but I'm pretty well out of room so the only way I could mount it was straight out.

Finished buffing of the body for now and set it on the pan again. Wow looks great - I'm going to try installing at least one thing a day to get it running again. I'll be close to making the Burger bash if I use my old wiring harness and no snags along the way.

These Porsche seats with heat and power are very nice but a little long for climbing into the buggy. I might pull them out this winter and get some other smaller seats.

The 3" wide racing belts are a little over kill for my seat belts so they are being switched out for the ones that I purchased with the 911 seats. The belt that will be installed is on the passenger seat. The shoulder bracket for the belt will be mounted on the roll bar.

First test drive after reassembly(need to get the new windshield installed). The rear suspension has settled riding on the bump stops. I have adjustable spring plates - hopefully they have enough adjustment in them. Otherwise it ran well. The ambient temp was 90 degrees and the cooling system for the motor worked very well. Although the front radiator fan cycled on a few times while the car was moving slowly. Plenty of heat coming off the radiator into the cockpit area.

When I can get on the road I will post a video with the short exhaust - I am working on a 12" pipe with a baffle to lower the drone noise.

The new windshield slipped right on using the hidden brackets.

Looking good Driftin! That orange really pops!
Where did you end up running the front to rear cooling lines?

The body fiberglass support tubes under the fenders running the length of the car. The flexible gate hose was pushed into the glass tube. The left side of the buggy has the coolant line running to the radiator and the right side is the return to the motor. Works good, I may try to put the lines in the tunnel next time. It was 95 degrees here yesterday and the car's temp stayed at a even 186 degrees for the 25 miles I drove it.

Also the shorty exhaust is way to loud for me, so loud you have to yell while having a conversation with your passenger.

Several months ago adjustable spring plates were installed to help me get my stance adjusted. Looks like they will need to be re-indexed again because they are adjusted to max lift and the car is about 1/2" off the shorty bump stops.

I'm finally back on the road for the summer. The new paint on the car is about perfect so I'm putting some 3M Scotchgard wrap on the hand rails and splash area of the fender. My first attempt to install the stuff on the passenger side looks rough because I tried to cover the area from the windshield to the end of the fender with 1 long piece. Air/water bubbles became trapped, the edge curled, some stretch marks..... The driver side is better with a small cutout for the fender(shiny area in the picture), another for the edge by the roll bar, and a third for the arm rail where you climb into the buggy. Here is a pic of the driver side by the fender. You really have to make sure it cool outside when installing this stuff.

I'm back on the road for the heat wave we are having in Oregon - temp's 100+. Car runs great and stays right at 185 degrees so far. The heat that blows off the top of the radiator around the top of the gas tank comes into the cabin area is warm. Next time the hood is off some insulation will be put there to block it. We usually don't have weather like this but it's a heads up to others putting the radiator in the front of the car. The gas tank will also get a reflective heat blanket.

I'm also working on an exhaust - my direct dump tip is to loud for a conversation and it does drone at HWY speeds. My young adult drivers like it!!
