Read your whole post! Nice bug! Maybe we'll have to meet up at the Woodburn bug show and show you my flame bug!
You're making me jealous with the bagged suspension. _________________ 1975 (Standard) Flame Bug

Well finally got it all welded out. I ran some lines real quick and it seems to do well. I only have to put 20-25 psi and it sits perfect. This is a pic of it air all the way up.
I put a small tape down to show how much drop it has.
I looks like 5 inches will have to figure out where it sets well.
It does need shocks though. I should be able to work on that later, might need to find some short shocks. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

So been working on my shock layout and I have had to pull my fit up apart and start again. The way I had it, I was using the lower shock mount cut down. It seems too close to the cv boot for my liking I want at least and inch clearance or more. So things are going slow right now. Hope to get at it in the next week or two and get it done. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

So I have been thinking how I wanted to do this still use a stock oil filled shock and have enough room to go all the way down and still have the travel I needed for the shock. At first I tried to use the stock location and that was way too close and it looked stupid.
So I made these.
I cut the bottom mount down and I will box that up to make it stiffer. I will also tie it into my bag plate that is fully welded. Things are just tacked in place till I am happy with it.
The upper mount tacked in place.
Here is a full view of the whole set up. I have the range I need for the shock to move freely. When my bug is bottomed out I have like 1/8 of travel left.
I am almost out of gas in my bottle. I hope I can weld up both sides before it goes empty. I have had this bottle for long time and it finally is almost out. I don't know when the next time I will be able to get to the drivers side but I know what I need to do. I am thinking in the next week or two I hope to have it welded up.
I have been trying to figure out why my shocks don't go up as fast as they used to. The only thing I can think of is the pie cut changed the angle on the shocks in relations to the arms. I was thinking of moving them back about 4 inches or so on the shock towers. I have to go over 100psi to get them to move up faster. I then drop them down to about 75psi for ride height. I just hope the fronts don't ride like crap. I also don't have any weight on the front cause there is no tank in.
More to come soon. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

So ran out of gas for the welder might be a bit before I can get a refill. My son and I installed the fog light on the bug. I also put my fenders back on the rear. I love how this thing lays out. Its a nice day so took some pics.
I was thinking of bolting it to the bumper bracket but figured we would just drill a hole in the bumper.
I like it a lot just wish it was yellow. It was a free bee so can not complain. Though If your up to it I did find some old 50s ones on ebay for 15-30 shipped. or $50 for new yellow ones shipped.
Not much going on besides that. We will prob work on some other things until I can get back to finish the last little bit of the shock bracket. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.
