El Prado VW Show & Shine - Sunday June 8, 2014
With Bugorama having to change the 2014 VW Classic date from Sunday June 8th to Saturday June 21st, it seemed to put many of you in a slight predicament. With vacation days already requested off, plane flights scheduled and Hotel rooms booked, most of you have no choice but to cross your fingers and hope for the best.
So after spending the last few days on the phone, exchanging emails and talking with some locals, it seems we found a great "Plan B" to cap off an amazing week!
With the help of VTO and Just Cruzin VW Clubs, we have acquired a nice piece of property at the Prado Regional Park in Chino Ca. Just a couple hundred yards from the VTO Blackstar Campout, the area we've marked off should be the perfect back drop for a nice VW Show and Shine, Swap Meet, Vendor Display and Raffle. We're still in the beginning stages and have a few things to iron out, but I just wanted to let everybody know this week still has a lot to offer.
This isn't anything to take away from the VW Classic on June 21st, but rather something to help finish off an already established VW week, and show the "out of towners" a goodtime and prove their trip was not a waste
I for one will be at the OC Fairgrounds on June 21st, and I hope most of you will be as well!
SoCal VW Week - Schedule of Events
**Sunday June 1, 2014 - Pomona Swap Meet
As always the Pomona Swap meet kicks off the week of VW festivities. With six of these swapmeets a year, the June Pomona is usually the best one by far. There will be vendors from out of town with parts you don't see everyday. Usually scoring a good deal and meeting some cool people is not uncommon.
www.pomonaswapmeet.com
**Monday-Wednesday
Spend the week stopping by checking out some of the Local VW shops in Orange County and Los Angeles. Bill and Steve's, Kustom 1, Old Speed, Wolfsburg West, KYMCO, EMPI, Fat Performance, Gene Berg, Low Bugget plus lots more, just minutes from each other. Various places will be having open houses and BBQ's, just need to get the inside scoop on where to be.
**Wednesday June 4, 2014 - Blackstar Kicks Off
The VTO Blackstar campout is located at the Prado Regional Park in Chino, Ca. Anyone is welcome to stay one, two, three or all four nights. Always guaranteed a good time, the campout is open to anyone who isn't afraid to have some fun.

**Thursday June 5, 2014 - Drag Racing at Irwindale
Every Thursday is the "Street Legal" Drags at Irwindale. The Thursday during the Classic week has always attracted more VWs than usual. Go checkout some of the fastest cars in Southern California battle down the Drag Strip!

**Friday June 6, 2014 - Pierside Open House
Pierside Parts in Huntington Beach will be having a Open house and BBQ between 9am and 5pm. Greg has gone out of his way and decided to have TWO parties this year. Yes he will be having an Open house the day before the VW Classic on June 20th, but he's also keeping his original date for Friday June 6th to welcome everyone over for some BBQ and a good time. Big props to Greg and the crew at Pierside for stepping up and helping out.

**Friday June 6, 2014 - Just Cruzin's Cruise Night
Just Cruzin's Cruise Night Friday June 6th at 6:30pm located at Burger Town USA - 760 N. Archibald Ave Ontario Ca 91764. All air cooled cruise night, delicious food and awesome people. Good VW fun for the whole family! Just north of I-10 at Archibald exit.

**Saturday June 7, 2014 - O.C.T.O. SHOW
The largest gathering of 67 and Earlier VW buses will once again take place at the Long Beach Veterans Stadium from 6am to 1pm. Huge display of buses along with a massive Swap Meet that consumes the entire parking lot. Definitely something you do not want to miss out on.

**Saturday June 7, 2014 - Toy and Collectibles Show
**The Toy Show has been canceled**
Due to a scheduling conflict with the Ball Room, we have no choice but to cancel the Toy and Collectibles show. The Wyndham will still be the host hotel for the weekend. Call 949.863.1999 to reserve your discounted hotel room.

**Saturday June 7, 2014 - Clyde Berg Bowlorama
Clyde Berg will once again be hosting a night of Bowling in Orange County. Details still being worked out, we will keep this updated as information becomes available.

**Sunday June 8, 2014 - El Prado Show & Shine
We are still in the early stages of this event and plan to update you as information becomes available. Below is a layout of the event to give you and idea of how it's going to look on Sunday morning. Here is the information we have so far...
Location: Prado Regional Park 16700 S. Euclid Avenue Chino, CA 91708
Price: $20 per Car, NOT per person. So load up the family and head on down.
Time: The front gate located on Euclid Ave will open at 6am.
Swap/Vendors: Anyone selling items will need to pay $25 per vehicle. This money goes directly to the park.
Food: HOT DOG FRED will be cooking! We also plan to have other vendors, but feel free to bring your BBQ.
Raffle: VTO will be putting together a special raffle just for Sunday
Campers: No additional charge for those already camping at Blackstar, heck you're already there!
Clubs: Please arrive together if you wish to park together. Parking is first come first serve.
Souvenirs: We will have an event T-Shirt plus maybe some other goodies.

That sounds awesome esp for those of us already camping out at blackstar! Plenty of room, grass, trees and scenery. Just hope there is more than one little old state park service lady running the single lane entrance. If you thought getting into the classic was tough, imagine what a bottleneck that would be. . .
But then again, WE'LL ALREADY BE INSIDE!!! And waking up with a bloody mary in hand to boot! |

With the help of VTO, we will have full control of the front gate, and our hopes are to get everyone in smoothly and safely. _________________ Andy Kimball
