Ive tried squirting easy start down the carb, nothing

Ive checked for air leaks around the manifold
Ive checked the tank for shit and venting
Valve clearences
Timing
The list goes on.
As you can see, it boils my piss and I cant trust the car . the only way it will start is by bumping it. Once it starts it smokes a little bit but not bad and will continue to run fine. I can then stop the engine with the key and it will restart straight away.
I think its either a faulty coil,(breaking down with the heat ,I run a Judson magneto coil) or a petrol evaporating problem.
Im going to hook up another coil and try that first.

The float level may be too high or the float is sticking ? Jim |

When I didn't have it jacked it wouldn't start, so I jack it wait 5 an away it went again.
It seems to be a problem they have doin this
When mine starts to get too hot it makes a faint rattley sound or if it's under a bit of load then heats up.
I've tried to find the problem with that too, but can't find much. |
The faint rattle you can hear is pre ignition or pinking. Timing too advanced or leaning out. |

It's a different rattle, sort of sounds like a bearing. Really strange. I've tried to advance/retard it to see if it helped but it didn't.
How clean is the filter element vwhelmot?

heres a small update.
been wondering about the mmo intake for it for a while, then lately ive noticed after a little the judson gets a little noisier.
turned the mmo adjustment an not much difference. bit the bullet an then this happened.
whoops..
pulled it apart to check n clean it.
the intake shaft didnt seem to have good flow through the "whistle" end. if u have seen the end u will know what im talking about, looks like a steam train whistle..
pulled it apart an this is what i found
seems it thinks it was a cat.
big ball for a small tube.
so realistically, at idle when u set the flow of oil it would of been dripping at the correct amount, but then at speed with the higher vacuum an volume been sucked through, the hairball would of limited the volume been allowed through into the charger and leaned it out for lubricant.
this might be a small thing but could have a big result? or be one of a couple of smaller problems that are causing the heat.

Wow thats a big hairball, hopefully the source of your issues!
How often should the oiler be serviced? I've been running my judson for over 20,000 miles now and only ever had to adjust it once its pretty consistent with the amount of oil I go through. |

| Finally after all this time pissing about I`ve fixed the problem with my intermittent starting problem. I`ve rebuilt my fuel pump, made my own diaphragm from a sheet of Vital rubber, milled the pump body to bakerlite surface flat (so now it doesn't leak oil), replaced the valves, glass polished the mating surfaces, added extra thickness gaskets to reduce the pressure slightly, pre tensioned the diaphragm and hey presto I haven't had the same problem since. :) |

That's good news! I've been chatting with another guy an he has given me ideas about rebuilding the pump, but using a vacuum on it too so the diaphragm gets used to it's full potential.
I think I may have to rebuild and pre tension mine again to see.
Mind u, I have been taking note of the temp with the lid shut on short highway runs an it does seem to be lower temps too.
But could be wrong on a longer trip.
