Lately there has been a lot of buzz going around about type 4 engines in buggies. I thought I would just post up a few pictures in one place since they are kinda scattered all over the place.

Here are a couple that I found recently. This was installed into a fugitive rail. The exhaust is made by European Motorworks. Check out the link below. It is a slick set up made for type 4 engines with the stock cooling shroud.

The one catch is that you need to run dual carbs because the manifold would interfere with the exhaust header.

This picture here comes from Shadow Rail. When he bought this machine, it was missing all of the cooling tin. He is currently working on collecting all the tin to complete the engine.

How much weight does the upright conversion save?

http://www.aircooledtech.com/type4_upright_conversion/

the upright conversion gets the fan up away from the sand. here in NM, we got moondust - dust so fine it sounds like water when you wade through it. you want to get the fan away from moondust.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but anyone have any idea on this wheel/tire combination? This looks awesome! Can someone send me a link to more pics of this?

Just for you Soundkillr...

About the upright conversions... I could deal with a DTM, but I am not a big fan of the Porsche style conversion...no pun intended Laughing

Seriously thought, the DTM conversion is pretty solid and cools very well like the stock system. The Porsche style conversion has a bad habit of under cooling two cylinders, and over cooling the other two. For a racing motor the Porsche style shroud does it's job very well, but for those who wan't a motor for long term reliability...mmm, you get the idea.

I'll dig up some more pictures of upright stuff if you guys are really into that sort of thing Wink

Modifying the type 1 cooling tin is another interesting solution I have seen...

Sadly ,I can not comment on how well it cools.
