I'll try to get some more pics up tomorrow. There certainly is plenty of room under the bed for another drive train and the leaf sprung solid axle in the back could be swapped out pretty easily I bet. _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |

I split the case last night and put everything up then when I got home from worked and started moving things around this happened
son of a bitch just fell right off. Out of curiosity I decided to find out how hard it was to break so I tapped on the other one with a RUBBER mallet about 3 times and it broke off too.
WTF! I knew magnesium was fragile but damn. Bout to light the whole neighborhood up tonight, can't wait till my neighbor calls the Fire department when I start burnin this bitch. _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |

Gavin; Engines are a dime a dozen (almost). Good thing you found out now. It looks like the CVs need service and new boots. The rest looks good. |

Word, I can get another bored out for 180 so not too bad off really still bummed though, planning on replacing all the cvs and bearings since the truck got flooded and I'm sure they are full of sand, I'm hoping the trans ain't ful of shit, will probably drain it soon and find out. _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |

I would say that the header is a heater box without the metal surrounding it. Cool project. Is the trans a regular IRS or something different. A pic of the trans would be great. Dave T _________________ The best V W site on the planet! |

Lic of the shift linkage
Been furloughed the past 2 weeks so progress has slowed till I get paid again. Took a couple of the broken windows out today. I'm considering using plexi for the side windows and the back one if it will save me any significant amount of money. One of the front windows is busted and will have to be glass so Ill have to figure that out eventually. _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |

Nope. The VW engine in the Hormiga sits in same orientation behind the transmission as in a Beetle chassis or Bus. Which means that your Sube trans output shaft would be facing forwards, not towards the rear.

Yeah, there isn't much space to flip the engine to the front either but I could move the engine to the back pretty easily and then use a suby or syncro trans. Would be a fun project for the future, right now I don't have enough money or freetime. Just started working full time again a couple days ago so progress should resume soon. _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |
