I have a few of them, but never installed them.

Thanks, I like them Peter. I'm kind of a gauge nut anyway.

Did you have to crimp your channel cover when you installed the MotoMeter gauge holder?

I have 1961 GHE/volkswagen brochure and a 1965 VDO/volkswagen brochure were the speedwarner is shown.
It´s actually quite fun to see it light up/buzz when you are going too fast Very Happy

Me too Wink I like driving at night when all the gauges is lit up (I also have the Motometer rally gauge set) The only thing missing is that if the mirror clock could light up Wink

The channel cover on the left remained stock with Motometer bracket going under it and the wires, but the right side I´ve shortened and modified. You can also see the wires from the switch going under the Motometer gauge holder on the picture.

The German text on the lens in FRK's lower photo of the Bosch fog lamp reads "tilt 20cm at 5 M". Means that the correct angle of the lamp beam is to tilt the housing so that the beam is 8 inches lower than parallel at a distance of approx. 15 feet in front of the car.

As usual, FOG lamps are supposed to be mounted low so that the beam goes below the fog layer. Driving lamps are supposed to be mounted high.

For a '53 I'd follow Bob's suggestion and find photos or actual units from high-end imported cars such as Jaguars or MGs. Mercedes-Benz as well, to keep it German. In my opinion don';t worry too much about the brand, since the lamps were sold as accessories here in the USA. It seems Europe was much more prepared with such accessories than the USA. Lamps from France or England would be suitable as being "period correct".

Sweet! I have been looking for a vehicle for my nos Marchal nipple lights, glad the bug folks are ok with them! I see them mainly on the Porsche speedsters in pics, and I assume yours are the re production ones, because OG ones are rare!

Rare, expensive, and not sellable. The repos are spot on PERFECT! They are made from the original tooling. The only difference is the rear rivet plating. You would have to own an original set to be able to tell the VERY sight difference. Wink

Nice box!

Looks like an original Marchal Cat from 1955 to 1959 era.

Did you get my email about the logos? Kool stuff and how the Cat and Cats Eyes were the company's logo up untill they went out of business in the 1980's....

I am happy that they are welcomed by some folks here. I understand the desire to keep things all original and use Hella. I think these are best used on a vw when you are going for a old rally race car look. I also have this old but not nos large nipple light it is about 8" diameter, I might find a purpose for it but it is only the one lamp. It has a chrome mounting bracket on it, black back cover, and no bulb right now. I am thinking of using it centered on the front bumper of my bay window like a Cyclops. Surprised

Very nice. Anyone know how much the Hella Foglight/Bumperguards go for? I have a correct left/right pair for Pre '55's that's sitting in my garage and I don't know if I'm going to use them or not. They have been rechromed a while ago.

Those are similar but not the correct bumper guard fog lights. They look the similar on the front but the back are different. They should be smooth with out rivets. I'll look for mine and I'll take pictures and post them here so you can see the back.
