Keep an eye on your Chromers !!! Here's a couple pieces from Metal Brite in Dayton, Ohio that tried to slip past me as a "Finished" product. Sent them back to get re-done and he thru his employees under the bus saying "They said the pieces were ready to ship"....Be Forewarned !!!

Looks like they tried to chrome the vent frames with the entire assembled latch installed. The rivets should have been drilled out to remove the latch from the frame and then the latches should have been disassembled. It's never a good ideal to chrome parts that are still assembled. _________________ Chris

I believe they did but I wouldn't swear to it. I vaguely remember something about completely disassembling in order to do the button properly.....

Thank you Frank !!! I do have to say that I'm remiss in Updates after this Last bit of "unfortunate" happenings....
It appears that the Chrome on the Passengers Vent window Frame "Bubbled Up" on us !!!!! I was Livid !!!! Sooo..... Everything had to come back OFF so it could be taken "Back" (For the 3RD TIME) to Metal Brite of Dayton, Ohio to be FIXED !!!! This was near the end of November and just got it back before Christmas. So....., Monday Morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed the door AGAIN gets some love along with a few other finishing touches here and there and it will be DONE !!!! The REST of the Chrome, that had problems before, seem to be holding up OK for now. I hope they stay that way !!!!

I honestly think chrome plating is a lost art/trade. I've been having similar issues here in the Houston area. The pricing is also ridiculous now days...at these prices the stuff should last 100 years
I've enjoyed following your build. Good luck on getting it finished! I hope your driving it soon |

Thanks Txoval, and I must agree. We used to have a Distillery that did chroming back in the '50's and '60's and also at the Naval Shipyard. I used to get small VW pieces done for $5-$10 apiece '66-'69. Then after I came back from Atlanta in '75 I found out that South Carolina Outlawed ALL Chroming company's !!!! Oh well, Powder Coating has come a long way and is really getting Good !!!!

Well, it's great to be adding more "Finished area" photos again !!! Finally got the issues with the Chroming taken care of and I hope that's the last time !!! The rear seat and surrounding area looks GREAT !!! Pillows look ready for a "pampered head" or a "Cover Photographers" Hot Camera attention !!! Covers for the front seats being put on as I write. I'm very pleased with the finished product so far.

Looks nice, couple things I see that will be picked out by judges..handbrake boot wrong style, door pulls and window winders should be the ribbed type, should be straight shifter. All easy fixes. Not sure why you didn't use the horsehair seat pads either. _________________ '63 Karmann Cabriolet L456 Rubin (Ruby Red)

Thanks for the insight Dave. I have the correct Emergency boot, Stick shift and door handles for her, they're just not in it yet. Car and parts are in 2 different places. As for the seats, Coconut fiber/Horse hair is not available for that early of year. The "High Density" Blue foam will do a perfect job in it's place, according to Lenny Copp at West Coast Classics.

Thanks for the detailed interior pics!
Good to know about the foam as I've been scratching my head as to what to use. I have my original coconut pads but they're pretty desiccated and fall apart if you look at them the wrong way... Let alone sit on it.
Did you get the foam from Lenny as well as the interior? It looks fantastic. _________________ Charmaine
