ok I read the whole Thread. Now I'm caught up. Don't forget to turn thy generator. If you want to install that tar board now is the time. It is great stuff for sound insulation! You won't hear the motor anymore, or any outside noise an atom bomb could go off and it would cancel the noise of that too!!!! It just looks nice that's all😃

After a family vacation break, I got back to the Creeky Bug today (Sunday, March 8th, 2015), to try and get the engine back in, finally, after installing the new intake manifold. Oh my, it was a struggle, but the engine's finally back in, and the car's actually sitting level on the ground again. I don't think I've ever had a car fight me this much for getting the engine back in. After a mental health break, I semi-removed it again, and made sure I had the transmission input shaft all greased, and then fooled with turning the rear wheel with the car in gear, and so forth, and all sorts of raising/lowering, etc.. And finally, it's in. Wires, hoses, rear tin, etc., still go go, but this was a major hurdle...

Saturday, March 21, 2015 Updates...

Emerging from the snow, emerging from the slumber...

After an overnight snowstorm that dumped another 3 to 4 inches of snow on us here in my part of Southern Connecticut, the sun amazingly came out around late morning, and, wow, melted most of what had fallen (at least on our driveway). I had some time to move cars around and tinker with attempting to get the Creeky '69 Bug started up once again, following the prolonged and painful intake manifold replacement project...

Amazingly, we got 'er started w/o too much trouble. Establishing *idle* was a little more complicated, and we're still not home free on that, but it was a good start, for the 2nd day of Spring...

Onward and upward...

Fixed a manifold leak and took Creeky for a joyride finally!...

Monday afternoon, April 6th, 2015, took another look at the little rubber plug that I had put over the manifold port on the left side (replacement manifold evidently from a different year single port engine or something--anyway, I didn't need to hook anything to it), and found it cracked and split! BIG reason for bad-running engine! MacGyvered a better plug right after that. Engine ran A LOT smoother.

Then went for a joyride to downtown Guilford, CT! Still a lot more tuning to go, but we're getting there...

Saturday evening, April 18, 2015, Guilford, CT... A little more test driving with the Creeky '69 Bug. Drove over to Guilford and bought some gas at Trav's Mobil, corner of Boston Post Road and River Street.

Wait, do dual-port engines have the same little port on the intakes? My Beetle hasn't run well AT ALL since rebuilding the engine a year or two ago, and I do believe it is a result of a massive vacuum leak somewhere...

The intake is different but some do have that port one the end casting.

A good place to look for vacuum leaks on dual port engines are those rubber boots that connect the intake manifold center section to the end castings. If they are not making a good seal it could be a problem. Hoping for the best for you, Beetlebaum, no fun trying to diagnose/fix oddball stuff like this!

At this end, my left rear brake assembly on the Creeky '69 is currently apart since I broke the metal brake line while replacing a leaky wheel cylinder. I bought a couple of lines at the FLAPS, and hope perhaps to get things back together and buttoned up tomorrow...

The Creeky '69 Bug finally got its leaky left rear wheel cylinder job finished up, following the purchase of some metal brake line at the local Pep Boys (to replace the one that fractured during removal of the leaky cylinder). Time spent putting the car back together on Saturday (5/2) caused me to miss the entire Cardone & Daughter Automotive (http://www.cardoneanddaughter.com/) "Open Shop" event, but I still took a highway blast out to Westbrook, saw the whole crew, and handed in my nonperishable food donation.

Stopped in downtown Guilford on the way back and saw a cool old Model A Pickup that appeared possibly have been connected with the previous day's "Nick Fradiani Appreciation Day" (Guilford's own American Idol finalist).

On the way back from New Haven I stopped to check out a cool older Chrysler that was for sale at the local package store in Stony Creek.

All in all, we had some fun! Nice to have Creeky in driveable shape once again!

Still needs more tweaking & tuning, but it's basically DRIVEABLE and so I'm trying to do as much as possible/practical. It was a long winter...

You are my inspiration, by the way!

Well I guess you would have to thank the people who started a little club known as the CVA for some of that inspiration, oh wait it's you, pat your self on the back then;) .

Time for a couple more pictures from our ongoing 2015 Creeky experiences... These are a couple of shots from some local driving in Branford, CT, on Sunday, May 10th...

A run for some necessary provisions...

And then a quick drive down to the Branford Point area (where the Branford River empties into Long Island Sound) and back, on a beautiful Sunday afternoon...

Overcast weather, it appears kept the participation level kinda low, but we still had fun checking out the event, held at Branford Hills Health Care Center on Alps Road, in Branford, CT, on Saturday, May 16th, 2015. Another super-high-quality restored '73 Bug also showed up (owner-restored--and a positively magnificent job--but also professionally painted by the talented Tim Scheller of "401 Restos" in Rhode Island) and so it was fun to check out the car and chat with the owner a bit.
