Couple of shots from up getting some gas by the highway mid-day today (Sunday, January 3, 2016), to mix in with the "Stabil" dose, and then one more short run to make sure things got circulated... And then tucked away for "crummy-weather season" that I'm sure will come eventually here in rust-belt Connecticut (though I must say, it's been a mild winter so far--knock on German sheetmetal)...
Last odometer check before parking & removing the battery indicated we've traveled a total of 4,392 miles in the Creeky '69 this past season. It's been fun, and already can't wait for Spring! The car is really running well! See ya again soon, old pal!

Well, I decided to move onto something new as far as wheels and tires. I came to the conclusion that the knobbies were just too harsh, and were ultimately interfering with my enjoyment of driving the Creeky Bug...
For the 2016 season, here are a set of cool 14"diameter x 5.5" wide Western "Minilite"-style wheels (purchased from Samba seller Scott Hopkins in GA), refinished by my favorite local powdercoater (Shoreline Coatings LLC of North Branford, CT: http://shorelinepowdercoating.com/home/) a little while ago, recently fitted with 205/70R14 BF Goodrich tires--very nice looking & driving setup! (NOTE: Stick-on weights were used, and only on the backs of the wheels, when these wheels & tires were spin-balanced by my trusted local automotive shop)
And no spacers needed with these wheels (for caliper clearance due to the Karmann Ghia disks on the front of my '69 Bug--my 14" Dan Gurneys needed spacers) either. I've had the car out on the highway once so far, and very pleased with how this setup spins!
I've only had the car out for one trip so far this year--looking to a lot more... I did have to deal with some brake problems that kind of cropped up during winter storage--which thankfully seem to have been dealt-with for the most part now--though I think I've learned something along the way about the quality--or lack thereof--of replacement parts these days...
Anyway, happy to be back on the road again for the 2016 season... _________________ Stock Steve

Tuesday evening, May 10th, 2016, I was very pleased to stop into the little "Yogurt N More" cruise night in little old downtown Northford, CT, on my way home from work. Here are a couple of crummy low-res photos from the I-Phone.
Finally getting a little more driving confidence back with the car, after further tinkering with the brakes (including lubing the pedal assembly, which, it turns out, was part of the problem)...
Drove the Creeky Bug to work four out of five days this week, right around 200 or so miles total, and 29.0 MPGs calculated as of yesterday's fill-up...
Onward and upward... _________________ Stock Steve

Miscellaneous Creeky Bug driving, Mid-May, 2016... First, beautiful stone bridge for Lyme Street to pass underneath Interstate 95 in Old Lyme, CT--was out there on Monday afternoon, May 16th.
And then yesterday morning's (May 17th) gas-up at the West Haven Service Plaza, Interstate 95 southbound side (31.3 mpg's calculated--must've been all that smooth & steady highway driving the last couple of days)...

I have *not* been rigorously driving the Creeky Bug over the past couple of weeks, primarily because our family was away on a vacation, but now starting to get back into the swing of things, especially inspired to do so with some gorgeous Connecticut weather lately--and with the car really running great as well...
Made a stop at the Milford, CT Staples on the way home from work yesterday, Tuesday, June 14th, 2016:

Have Rain-X, Will Travel... ...The Rain-X Kid was back in action, rolling the Creeky '69 Bug to work this morning Thursday, July 14th, 2016), through some occasional light downpours... This image was from the Long Wharf area in New Haven, CT, rolling southbound on Interstate 95, maybe around 8:30am-ish or so... Calculated MPG's as of this morning's fill-up in West Haven (I-95 service plaza, southbound side--my usual gas stop) were 30.1, and total Creeky miles driven this season at 1,396... Have a good Thursday...

August 4th photo at the West Haven (CT) Service Plaza, I-95 southbound side, morning gas-up on Thursday, August 4th, 2016, and then another morning shot ("gas up" for yours truly, via some Dunkin Donuts darkroast) at the Branford (CT) Service Plaza, I-95 southbound side, Monday, August 8th, 2016... Forgot how much fun this car is to drive with the top down...
I seem to be driving it for work commuting now around two times a week or so on average (50 miles round trip commuting loop)... We're now around 1,850 total miles for the 2016 season... Keep on Buggin'... _________________ Stock Steve

Haven't been work-commuting as much as I should lately, but did manage a work run yesterday, Thursday, September 22nd, 2016. Here's a couple of morning shots, including crossing the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven on Interstate 95 southbound, and also stopping for gas at my usual spot, the West Haven service area, also on I-95, southbound side. Beautiful clear day--perfect for top-down Buggin'...
We're now just over 2,000 total miles for the 2016 driving season--better start driving again more often, the cold weather's going to be here before we know it... _________________ Stock Steve

Finally put the top back up on the Creeky '69 Bug, so that I didn't have to get so intimidated by questionable weather days, especially now that we're well into fall... These are a couple of shot from an evening pleasure drive along scenic CT Route 146, that winds thru the shoreline towns of Branford and Guilford, Saturday, November 12th, 2016... Hoping to get a good amount more Creeky Bug driving in before the roads get salty...

Work commuting in Southern Connecticut, Thursday morning, June 1st, 2017...
It has been very rainy here in Connecticut the past couple of weeks. I heard that today was going to be nice, however, and so made plans to drive the Creeky '69 Bug to work today, top-down of course, and it was a positively wonderful experience. This photo is from about 8:45am or so this morning, when I stopped to gas-up at the West Haven I-95 service plaza on the southbound side.
I haven't been very hard-nosed about driving the car lately, with the rainy weather and all (plus none of my kids are *currently* needing to borrow my 2001 Subaru Forester, meaning that it is available for *me* to actually drive--wow!), and so my 2017 total driving season miles with the Creeky '69 is not very impressive: 833 so far. Looking forward to adding to that total... _________________ Stock Steve
