They are great Dave, for sure. What you will find is they will gradually go from being physically exhausting/consuming, to financially and mentally exhausting/consuming. Every moment is special however... but some are "special-er" than others.. Wink

I started the restoration on my zwitter in 1982. Then I had 4 kids. Now, 30 years later, after 17 trips to the hospital with kids, three college degrees, two weddings, two grand kids and a divorce, I am almost done. Other than th divorce, I wouldn' t trade it for all th money in the world. Enjoy it,it passes in the blink of an eye.

Lol. I sounds familiar. My daughter is almost 3 and in past year I've bought and sold a '57 vert over seas and picked up A ribbed '55. Also sold a '66 ive had for nearly 20 years.

Kids still come first Smile

. Funny thing is she asked "who's taking my car" during the last sale.

So, it has been a while since I updated this thread...

My daughter is now 16 months old, I have sold my 56 Kabriolet and 68 Razor Edge so now have space and some spare time to start the 51.

I have spent the last 2.5 years collecting parts so have many of the parts I need but there are still some outstanding pieces I need.

About a month ago a few freinds and I went to my lock up and loaded the pan, gearbox and beam onto/into the cars and moved them to my place - the start of something exciting:

I must update my WANTED list!

I have started bulding the pan. Seb kindly lent me his taps to clean out the threads for mounting the beam and the gearbox - this was SO worthwhile I cannot tell you. I thought one of the beam bolts had snapped off but it turned out to just be very hard, compacted mud. I am guessing the pan has spent some time sitting outside at some point.

Inspired by John Henry's skates he made for parking his split up over the winter I made myself some skates and used them for moving the pan about.

I bought a Concept 1 nose cone adaptor from Ken King some time ago so fitted that to the 63 box I am planning on using. I am just building the pan to be a rolling chassis at this stage to enable it to be mobile and to provide a base to build the body on when the time is right. For that reason I am not repainting/refurbishing things just yet.

Although the pan had new pan halves (actually quarters) fitted, they were for a later pan so they are coming off to be replaced with some of Gerson's Klassic Fab funky green panels

One of the problems of pans lying around outside is they provide shelter for wildlife. I am not sure what was living in this one, maybe a rat or squirrel, whatever it was, it build a nest:

Although the pan looks to be in very good condition, there is some rust on the inside of the tunnel - how do people deal with this? The only dipping and coating place I am aware of is Surface Processing in Dudley: http://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/ this is about 185 miles from me - 3.25 hrs drive each way on a good day.

An alternative to stripping and ecoating would be to drill out the spot welds to open out the tunnel, cleaning it all up and painting then reassembling - are there any other options?
